Waxworms for my cresties :-):-)??

Just curious dudes and dudettes...

Anyone else feed there cresties waxworms?
I know there high in fat but rapashy isn't. I usually feed my cresties straight rapashy crested gecko diet but I'm looking to add some insects once a week just for a little extra energy.
I checked out waxworms and there perfect for what I'm looking for! Lotsa calcium, protein and fat! Just looking to pork em up a bit. Also there easy to breed!
Looking for opinions from other crestie owners on what they think.

If you want an insect that is really nutritious for your cresteds try phoenix worms: http://www.phoenixworm.com. You can also feed silkworms, although I have not purchased them before so I can't recommend a good place to get them.

Waxworms really aren't very good as a feeder because of their high fat content. As an occasional treat or mixed in with other insects for an animal that needs to put on weight they are okay, but that's all I would recommend them for. Repashy isn't high in fat because you shouldn't feed your gecko a diet high in fat--that's not a reason why it is okay to feed them an insect that is high in fat, but rather a clue as to the fact that they should not have a high fat diet. You don't want a "porked up" gecko, rather a gecko that is at a nice healthy weight for its age and general bone structure.

I know about the silkworms and pheonix worms and there not for me... I'm looking for an insect I can breed myself easily. Something that requires little to no care. And of all the insect those two are probably the hardest to breed... Other than crickets. Does anyone know of a healthy insect I could feed that is easy to breed?
And I know there hi in fat... I am only looking to feed them insects once a week. Is that still too much?

If you want a good, nutritious feeder insect that is easy to breed try feeder roaches. I like blaptica dubia a lot--it can take a little while to get your colony going depending on how many adults you start with, but once it's going they will really produce well.

I've had ZERO luck with any worms with my cresties, they've just shown no interest. Luckily I know a panther chameleon that takes pheonix worms, hornworms, and silkworms quite happily.

I have had luck feeding dubia roaches to most of my cresties. They're high in protein and a great feeder. Most of the time I dust with calcium (no D3), with the rare herpvite or calcium w/d3 dusting.

Protein and calcium are far more important to gecko growth than fat.

I don't think we can get the roaches here. I'm in Burlington and have cresties and have asked around about them before.
