Utterly Unable to Find a Dimmer

I went to walmart, lowes, Radioshack, even a pet store.

No one had Rheostats or dimmer. It's kinda depressing. I am gonna order a new thermostat monday though So that should fix things. I feel like a real heel not being prepared like this.

Wow, that is odd, Lowes should definitely have one. Have you tried Petco or Petsmart? They always carry them. If you can't find any though, online is your best bet.

I can't believe your Lowe's didn't have any sort of dimmer. Maybe you just didn't know what you were looking for. You want the same thing that is used to dim lamps, etc.

Re: Utterly Unable to Find a Dimmer

I know I went all over the lighting section and I asked 2 different employees.

The only dimmers they had were these one touch dimmer things that didn't look like the dimmers I had seen online or seen others use, not the ones with the slide you choose a setting on. They kept trying to sell me a wall dimmer even as I described what I needed.

I went to a petco and they didn't have one.

I feel like such an jerk. I though my ultratherm was so low watt it would hold 90 under a cage and substrate. but when I let it run for a half hour brushed back the thin layer of substrate and scanned it it was 133 degrees! Needless to say I unplugged it.

Re: Utterly Unable to Find a Dimmer

I appreciate the offer rich and I may take you up on it. I was just gonna order a whole new Ranco From reptile basics monday. (I here helix is the way to go but I have never seen/used one)

I was more looking for something I could immediatly get until it arrives. I am quite surprised after going to 4 stores I couldn't find one.

I feel like the lowest shoe scum man, I can't provide my sweet new ball perfect temps yet. Man I could just kick my own butt. I thought I had it all planned out to. They said on the reptile basics page that those ultratherms usually sit at 90 cause they are so low watt. And I certainly never thought a dimmer would be so hard to find locally.

    Hi,

I actually use the wall dimmers they were trying to sell you and just wire them myself. It looks less elegant given the size of them but they work fine for me.
