    bit snappy!

just got my new 09 pastel today and am extremely happy wi her

however when i went up to her tub 2 check on her she tried to strike me bashing her head off the wall of her tub! she also hissed earlier when i was putin her in her new home.

i have 2 other royals which have always been heald regularly and have never been hissed or struck at and im just wondering if im just lucky wi my other 2 or if she could be a little more aggressive than most.

i understand she is scared and is probably just defending herself and have not tried 2 handle her or anythin but if any1 has any tips on how to go about taming her and gettin her used to me i would be gratefull.

    0.1 pastel royal python (artemis)

the most important thing right now is for you to leave her alone for at least a whole week, i know its hard, but its important for her to feel safe around you, after that its gonna be just sucking it up, letting her nip at you a couple of times without you backing out, and she'll soon realize you mean her no harm

Babies are especially defensive since they are so small. Everything is a possible threat to them. You are just a big scary monster to them!

Give her some time to settle in and she should be just fine with regular handling

hahahaha i know...when i first got snapped i jumped up and ended up tearing my skin with her teeth, much more painful than if i'd just stayed still...after that she bit me twice [[it was all within the first 2 weeks of having her]] but i kept still and she let go, i barely felt it.....and it's been 3 years and i haven't been nipped [[by her]] anymore

i handle my new pastel for about 15 minutes each day. he just stopped balling up, but the other day he hissed and got defensive, so i left him alone til feeding day. only handle a lil bit and gently and slowly at first. watch their head

Since you just got him today, he's just freaked out by the move. Plus he's still young, so he's naturally more snippy now. Give him some alone time for about a week. After that handle him for short periods of time until he figures you out. Eventually he'll realize you mean him no harm.

cool, i knew when i got my first snake i should be prepaired 2 be bitten but with my 2 yellow bellies bein such perfect natured little guys i kind of thought i'd maybe got away wi it.

i had another look at her and as soon as she saw me she quickly went back in her hide, didn't think i was that bad lookin! . nah poor wee girl's just scared so will stay away completely 4 a week to let her settle and just take it from there.

mite get myself a thick pair of gloves 2! lol

She's young, if she tags you, you'll barely feel it. Nothing to worry about
