    Timeframe question

What is the average time to go from Lock to Lay? All I can find is that it is 27 days average to lay after prelay shed. I am trying to find the total time from the time they lock up to the time she would lay eggs

    Re: Timeframe question

It will depend on the the female since they can store the sperm for up to a year or so I heard.

example i been seeing locks with my het pieds since OCt and the females just did her prelay shed( i hope lol ) 16 days after another shed and i am on that countdown of 27 days till she drops, should call nightmare since i had to all but seal the tubs to keep the humidity up ( dang electric heat)..

I also got a pastel ( recently) that i tossed in with a female and they been gonig for a long time but I guessing she already gravid she in a darken stage of preshed look.

Seems this questions keeps getting asked a lot lately... Patience people.

It all depends on when the female begins to develop follicles. I have a 2600g female that just Ovulated yesterday and she started locking up in July of last year. It will vary between each individual animal. But there is no definitive timeframe.

    Re: Timeframe question

Don't you just love the way people want to set a clock or something by them?

Just because they lock doesn't mean they'll lay. I mean, just because you and your guy/girl did your "thing" doesn't always mean the pitter patter of little feet does it?

They'll lay when they are good and ready to, and not before then.

    Re: Timeframe question

I am probably the worst when it comes to patience. Ball pythons have their own clock. You can't really know what day you're going to get a pre-lay shed or get eggs. I bred one female last season. She had her pre-lay shed in the very beginning of March. On average, female ball pythons lay around 30 days later. My girl didn't lay until May 4th. That is about 60 days past the day she had her pre-lay shed. Other times, they go right according to schedule. That same female, this season, is sitting with 4 huge follicles in her and she's still locking and eating on a weekly basis.

    Re: Timeframe question

all my females that have been bred are off food and only one so far has gone through her prelay shed. The others i keep pairing till refusal or i see the ovulation. Looks like i may have another girl getting ready to go but will see. Like every1 said theres no set schedule. It sucks waiting and having to keep pairing but that is all apart of the game. My incubator has been set up for over a month now and i keep buying stock for late season and next year. Just give it time and it will come. Think about how annoying it is to have 22 ball pythons with 2 females eating and one male and thats it. They went from pounding food to refusing for the past 3 weeks. The males have ate up untill around 3 weeks ago but now i only have one male eating. Its stressful but think of what you will get at the end. Eggs, hatchlings and a huge smile that you produced it and some one else didnt. Hope the best for everything. Lord knows ive dished out way to much money this year
