New Hides= New Behavior?

So I made two nice hides using the sticky post in the do it yourself section. They turned out awesome! They are the ones that you make out of clay and bake. Anywho, so today I replaced his old plastic hides with these newer ones. These are much more snug and I 'thought' he would love them! Well, ever since I switched them out he hasn't gone near them and his just wrapped around his faux tree branch instead......sigh.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do they just take awhile to adjust and realize that the new hides are actually better? LOL.

Any suggestions would be great! I'm not sure if I should give him a couple days and see if he finally gives in, or just give him back the old ones.

It will take about a week for your snake to accept the hides as a safe place to hide. You can try putting the snake in one to see if that will jump-start the process.

Most animals take awhile before they're willing to test out the new hide in their enviorment. Some will obviously take to it more quickly than others...but the only real suggestion is to just give it time...and like Kaorte said, perhaps putting him in the hide to jump start the process.

I ended up making a hide for my one leopard gecko the other day...put it in the enclosure, and to my shock my gecko walked into it immediately and settled down. New things tend to excite that little girl though. All you have to do is arrange her cage differently and she'll walk around exploring it for the rest of the day haha.
