Re: Baby Male Pastel.. Should I Go For It??

Pictures can be decieving, it could be a smokin hot pastel or it could be a light normal. I say there is nothing wrong with going to check it out, hell he even said he had adult male pastels available, so if the 'pastel' pictured turns out to be a poor example ask to see the adults and find out prices.

It never hurts to look. I got two 6 year old virgin females off of craigslist last year for $75. I also got a 600g spider female and my smokin hot pastel male off of craigslist for $225 as a pair. Sometimes people just don't know where to list things, but CL isn't filled with horrible people, but like others have said, be cautious and don't get your hopes up.

That is one really bad looking Pastel. They are so cheap that I would spend the higher price to get the best possible looking one from a reputable source.

Re: Baby Male Pastel.. Should I Go For It??

It's up to YOU it's your money.

Now would I purchase this pastel for $75? Nope, this is a poor quality pastel that will brown out.

Now I do not know if you want him for a pet or to breed one day but either way it is a poor example.

If I wanted to get a pastel even as a pet I would still want him to be one of the best example out there, if not I would just get a normal.

    Again YOUR decision!

    You know....

    I was thinking.

If you have to start a thread about whether or not you should get a snake....when your other threads say you have to 'talk your mom into letting you get more'.

    I say dont get anything.

Re: Baby Male Pastel.. Should I Go For It??

After Patrick's post, I checked her profile out...

I had no idea she was 14. I am sorry, but in this day and age, a 14 year old girl has absolutely no business meeting anyone off of the internet, much less CL, for anything.

It seems like a VERY bad idea. I know alot of members here have their own kids around that age... would you want them going out to meet someone that posted an ad on CL? Highly unlikely.

I would stick to an online breeder or shows tbh. It is much safer for you, and there are some great ones here to give your business to.

Sorry if I come across as overprotective, crazy, not-understanding, whatever... but.. there are some seriously sick people in this world. And at 14, you may think you know... but, you don't.

Whatever you decide to do, please be very careful.

Re: Baby Male Pastel.. Should I Go For It??

I've said this to several people before, and I'll say it again: Price should be one of the LEAST important deciding factors in determining whether to get an animal or not!

Bargain buyers generally end up with poor quality animals, or poor examples of whichever particular animals they get. First and foremost, you should pick an animal that looks great to you. This is easier to do with a lot of species after you get a general idea of how their colours will change as they age. However, if you see an animal that looks stunning when it's young, in most cases it will turn out to be a stunning adult as well. People should be very familiar with any sort of animal they are considering purchasing. They should be saving links to websites where they've seen nice examples of that particular animal. Better yet, they should gain a preference for characteristics within a species, locale, or mutation, so they can be discriminate about the animal they are purchasing.

Also very importantly, you should know the individual you are dealing with. There are far too many scammers, liars, and just all around bad people that you might subject yourself to dealing with if you don't know any better. Do your research before making any purchase. Check the person's website if they have one. Look into what sorts of animals the person is known to work with or specialize in. Look the person up on the BOI, or the feedback forum here. These are all good ways to get an idea of who you may potentially be doing business with. This is not to say there aren't any good little guys or hobbyists (I'm still a "little guy" in the business myself) who may not have had too many sales up to a certain point, but that is one of the things forums like this are great for - so you can get to know people you may well deal with in the future. Everyone's got to start somewhere... but Craigslist is not the proper place to do so, and if someone's actually passionate about these animals they'll have no trouble finding far better places to post.

After you've done some of these sorts of things, that is the time you should concern yourself with the price of the animal, and begin determining whether it is worth the price to you. Go ahead and think to yourself what you believe you should pay for the animal. If it's listed around the same price, I'd say go for it. Most of my buys have been from seeing the animal in person, or seeing a picture of the animal and saying to myself, "Wow, that's a stunning example of a(n) [species/locale/mutation]!" Most of the breeders I bought from I already knew for their good reputations. Price was not really an issue.

Sorry for the bit of a rant. Just sort of irks me to see so many "should I get x animal?" or "is x animal worth y amount?" threads around on the internet. It is your money after all, get what is worth it to you!

Re: Baby Male Pastel.. Should I Go For It??

I going to say NO to be honest.

I cant help but think back to a sick animal you had that you were worrying about, whether it be the Blood or the Water Dragon, worrying about affording the vet. Ergo you asked me how to euthanize it.

You should be able to afford a vet visit, as well as deal with medical problems should they arise. Let ALONE, be able to feed and house and deal with any problems your hatchlings should come down with.

Acquiring animals on the cheap shouldnt be your methods of shopping for an animal, though I would expect at such a young age money is harder to come by. You should look at someone's reputation, their guarantee if they have one, as well as a whole bunch of other things.

    PASS on this animal Tiff.

(Im sorry if this was offensive in any way, but its the truth)

No offense but not everybody is out to get you. My wife and I have met a few local teens off of craigslist (they were with their parents) to sell/trade/buy fancy mice to. We meet all sorts, but 99% of the people you meet are no different than you and I. If she were ever to meet up with anyone from the internet discretion is always a must, but not everyone is a serial killer/rapist/pedophile.

It only takes 1% to ruin your day (or week, or year, or life).

I agree with Trevor, Pat and Russ. No hard feelings Tiff, but there's plenty of other good pastels out there.
