    Carpet not eating

My female carpet yearling hasn't eaten for a couple months now. She is not pooping either. she spends a large amount of her time in her water bowl, and she doesn't have mites. I pamed the enclosure just to be safe. The ambient ranges from 70-76. I have a hard time keeping my room warmer than that even with a space heater. when my room is 80 it is uncomfortable for me because its a bit warm.

    Re: Carpet not eating

What kind of setup and heating source are you using for her? And what kind of prey have you offered? I'm still new to carpets, but have experience in getting picky BPs to eat... sometimes it helps to switch up the prey, from mouse to rat and/or frozen to live.

    Re: Carpet not eating

I've found that - in the case of a couple of problem eaters here - carpets can sometimes be triggered by prey items that any ball python keeper would consider insanely large - 1.5-2x the diameter of the snake!

    Good luck with her.

(And yeah - the more details you can give of her husbandry & situation, the easier it will be for the real experts 'round here to help you out.)

    Re: Carpet not eating

i've had carpets act this way in the winter... not eating, soaking, but nothing wrong with them. i agree with bruce... large prey usually work better than anything else.

    Re: Carpet not eating

shes in a VE175. Plenty of space, and she has eaten many times in this enclosure. hot spot is around 90, she never on the heating pad though. Her hide is on top of the heat source.

Its good to hear that colin. I'm not too worried thanks to you all. I have offered her pretty large prey but i will try that again.
