oh snap... lil bugs in cage...
after fixing the humidity issue i decided to take out my snakes moss and clean it.. just board and it been about a week or so... while i was stiring the dirt looking for .. poop lol i come across these small black or grey bugs that hop around... are these mites? i think i read they were red or white but these are like beetle color... ide take a pic but they are way to small...
using eco earth which is dirt with coconut shavings and some type of bark...
will soaing the substrate in 100+ degree water do the trick on getting rid of them?
should i check my snake?
how would i go about checking him?
nvm after taking a closer look they are white ... glad i found them now then later

Can you see any bugs on the snake? Like up under the scales?
I would just go ahead and treat like they are mites- toss out all the old bedding, clean the cage and snake, and treat with Provent-A-Mite. Better safe than sorry in my opinion. I'd rather lose a few bucks worth of substrate than have to retreat in a couple of weeks.

Those little white bugs are wood mites!
I would bake your substrate at 225 in the oven for like 15-20 minutes. Obviously let it cool down when its done.
Also, use a light bleach solution to clean the cage. Make sure you get every nook and cranny. Although wood mites are not harmful to your snake, you don't want the cage to be infested with them.
If you can, order a can of Provent a Mite just in case they come back again or you get snake mites.

google Springtail just out of curiosity, mites don't hop but obviously treat anyway as previously stated you don't want bugs in your cages of any kind if you can help it
