ASF weaner orientation tank

Just wanted to share a new thing Im doing.

I noticed that in my female growout tub, Id put weaners in and every week Id have at least one weaner that would bury itself in the bedding and then all the bigger ASFs would sit on top of the bedding and suffocate the weaner, which I wouldnt know about or find till I come in to the herp room and smell death.
I also noticed that the more ASFs I have, the slower they seem to be growing. I attribute this to more competition from the bigger growouts not giving the little ones a fair chance at food and water.


So....To circumvent this, I started a weaner orientation tank. Its a 10g tank for just weaned ASFs to hang out in for 2 weeks before they go into the grow out tubs. This allows them 5 weeks before they join general population, and allows them a better edge when theyre all going for food and water. Hopefully this will prevent any more ASF drowning in bedding deaths. Who knows.

I have 2 giant tubs for grow outs.... the first one is for just weined... the second one is for medium and up.

Ive got 4 colonies in 10gal tanks, 2 8 gal tanks for just weaned/pre growout to gain some size before they join the group, and two 58qt tubs, male and female split. Im planning on starting up 5 more colonies tomorrow and to use the current grow out tubs for pre grow out, and buy 2 giant (104 qt?) tubs for grow outs.

I also started doing the "weaner orientation" about 3 months ago. I was noticing that out of the 14 or so weaners that I'd put into the gen. population tub, about 4 would also bury themselves and die. I think they just didn't understand the whole food and water from the ceiling concept. I keep my "pre-weaners" in their own 55qt with a water nipple and food hopper hanging. My success rate in this tub is like 95%.
