Sick bp information
Ok so my bp Monty is very sick, definite respiratory infection. Mouth open to breathe and very obvious popping noises as he does breathe. I have already cranked the temp up (heat pad and ceramic bulb) and have reduced humidity.
My main question here is this: I bought Monty on Jan 9, so 2 weeks ago. He began showing symptoms around the 19th. How much can the store be at fault here??? Is there any chance that he already had an infection when I purchased him?
Thank you for your advice and any well-wishes

Additionally have you made an appointment to an herp vet?

It would be very hard to establish who is at fault here, can be you can be the store who knows.
Is the animal under any kind of guarentees?

To be quite honest I don't think a vet trip is in my future. The only one I can find around me says it's $80 for a checkup and then more on top for antibiotics...a new snake will be half that. I don't want that to happen, but I haven't gotten a chance to bond with Monty b/c I've been trying to let him adjust.
And no. No guarantee directly stated

The snake will die if it is not seen by a vet or given antibiotics.
Did you get the snake from a pet store or a breeder?

Pet store, but one who only deals in reptiles and amphibians.

I would go to the pet store and explain the situation and see if there is anything they can do.
How are your temps and how are you measuring them? Not trying to point fingers, but it might be nice for you to know who is at fault.

The price of the animal is irrelevant when it comes to whether or not the animal should be taken to a vet, I paid $60 for my dog (Donation to the humane society) and I can tell you that each year she cost me more than 3 times that in vet visit, heart worm medicine, shots, flea medication and I gladly pay that because I take the responsibility of animal ownership seriously.
Well same thing goes for any other kind of animal, Bird, Rabbit, Cat, Snakes etc.
If the animal is sick, and the animal need to see a vet than that's what should be done, raising the temps will not make the RI go away if this is indeed what the problem is.
I know times how hard however if you cannot afford an animal this means feeding, housing and vet care than you should probably reconsider owning the animal.
There are options for you if you cannot afford vet care, you can ask for a payment plan (most vets will do that) or you can surrender your animal.
Animal ownership is a serious responsibility that need to be considered carefully, if the animal is a burden financially that re-homing is often the best option.

Not mention it's the RIGHT thing to do as well. Is it fair to allow the animal to suffer and potentially die because of the cost?

Can you please clarify this? When you say that a new snake will be half that, are you stating that when it dies you'll just replace it with a new one rather than getting it the vet care that it deserves? They shouldn't be considered disposable pets.
