Also when you get the interview...ask them what they are looking for in an employee. This way you can customize your answers to fit their "hot buttons". Prior to the interview go on the web and learn about them....you most of the time will learn about their philosophies as a company and you can speak to that. They really like that you did your research prior to an interview. You can also print out info and highlight stuff on the paper and take that in with you. It is just a visual thing they will see that will show them you did your research. Also near the end ask them what their concerns are....this will give you a chance to overcome their objections.

For any job seeker, Send out a thank you card to them the same day you had had an interview. IF they say they are interviewing in a week, wait one day after dropping off your resume/job app, then Call. Ask to speak to a manager or HR dept..
Tell them you dropped off a job app/resume and are very interested in working there.

If you get an interview, do the thank you card, and then a day or so after it should have arrived, call to say thank you for the interview, ask how the process is going and again say how much you would like to work there.
Getting your name in their heads, and calling them shows that you are truly interested.

A hand written thank you note, stating how you came away from the interview excited about the opportunity is excellent advice. Hand written is far more memorable than a typed one!

I had in internal interview where I work, to change positions within the company - and I made sure that after the interview with about 5 different individuals, I went home and hand wrote thank you notes to each of them (even though I worked with each of them in the job I was leaving, and they all knew me better than any external candidates).

Every one of them specifically mentioned the extra touch the hand written thank you note left them with. I KNEW as I was putting their cards into their mail slots that these cards just sealed the deal and that I would get the job. Put that positive energy out there!

Job searching is very hard this time of year. The holidays are pretty much over and businesses just don't need as many employees. I'm getting let go from my seasonal position at Target. My last shift is on Saturday (and I don't work today, tomorrow, Thursday, or Friday. Ugh!) and I'm trying to find places that are hiring. I've put in applications to two Petsmarts and I'm filling out my applications to Starbucks. I'm crossing my fingers.

Join the military so you can learn a skill. If you dont want to go fight in a war join the coast guard. At least you will have a Job/money/skills/free school.

I've never baby sat. I used to be in girl scouts but I left due to issues between me and the troop leader so listing them would have been nice but, probably not a safe idea.

And I have definitely listed my experience with herps (9 years), dogs, cats, and rodents!

I'm confident in my interview skills, the big problem is just getting an interview

I thought about going into the military but after thoroughly thinking that through I decided it wasn't for me.
