your opinions on thermostats
I was about to buy a herpstat , but then I saw these
http://www.reptilebasics.com/Thermostats-p-1-c-250.html
what do you guys think of the johnsons or the ranco's ?
should I just spend the extra and get a herpstat?

Re: your opinions on thermostats
I know alot of people use rancos, so might not be a bad choice
but herpstats and helixs are top of the line for a reason and their not that much more over the cost of an animal's life time, whats an extra 70 bucks.

Ranco & Johnson are realiable and good thermostats, I have a few of them, but I do prefer my herpstats.

Rancos/Johnson/Helix are all great but nobody holds a candle to Herpstat. They are just plain better in every possible way and there isn't really any arguement to be made against that.
If you just have a single boa/bp then yeah a ranco will be fine though. I had a repti temp 500R on my BP back in the day and I can't remember having a day where I didn't have to mess with the temp. I ditched it after I was gone from the house for 3 days and I came back to a 83 degree "hot" side. Moral of the story, bare minimum is an on/off digital unit like a Ranco/Johnson.
