plastic tub set ups
Hello everyone I am new here and I'm having some trouble. I want to use plastic tubs for when i get my Ball Pythons but I cannot find any good pics and instructions for housing in plastic tubs.
I am hoping some of you can post pics of your plastic tub set ups and instructions. I want to use the tubs since it is a huge space saver and I want to get into breeding the snakes eventually.
I need to see how the UTH or flex watt is placed inside as well as water dish and hides. I have a few friends who want to get into this also so you would be helping out multiple people.
I'm not into breeding for the money but more of a hobby. I use to breed pit bulls do to the variations of color patterns and breeding for good attitude. The breeding of the ball python is very interesting with all the morphs, I know i will have some real fun with it. Thanks in advance everyone...

Re: plastic tub set ups
The UTH or FlexWatt is not placed inside the tub--it is placed beneath the tub, under one half.
You can attach the flexwatt to whatever the bin will be sitting on. Most UTHs are designed for glass tanks, and should not be used with plastic tubs, so your best bet is to shop around carefully if you go that route. Big Apple Herp has a lot of heat mats that will work with plastic cages and tubs.
Here's a detailed description of one possible setup: http://eclipseexotics.wingedwolfpsio....html#bpbudget

Re: plastic tub set ups
Sorry forgot to add I will build my rack set up so I need to know what size and brand tubs to use. I been reading alot but on google but you hear alot of different stuff in terms of how to do it. With all the experience on this forum I would rather get my info from here since I plan on spending the rest of my life doing this as a hobby and maybe a career if I am successful with it...

It depends on what size animal you're getting. If you're getting a hatchling then you need to start out with small tubs. If you're getting ones that are in the 500g range, then you could use 28 qt or 32 qt. If you plan on breeding I'd start out with hatchling tubs and rack, that way when you breed you'll already have that ready. But you'll need to build/buy an adult rack too.
I've used UTH on plastic tubs and haven't had a problem. They don't suggest it though.

Re: plastic tub set ups
Sorry I worded it wrong lol. I met how does the UTH or flex watt go in the rack set up not the actual tub. I have experience with gecko's, iguanas, frogs, turtles but snakes are a whole new ball game. I always used tanks before so I want to make sure i got all my info straight when using the tubs..

Re: plastic tub set ups
A strip of flexwatt would be attached to the shelf the tub sits on, about 3 or 4 inches from the back wall of the rack. Some folks router in a channel for the heat tape to sit in, so the tub will not rub it when you pull it in or out. If you don't use a routered channel, be sure to use metal tape to seal down the edges of the tape to the shelf very carefully, and inspect it regularly.
Remember that flexwatt must be used with a thermostat, or it poses a serious fire hazard.

Re: plastic tub set ups
I would, but I don't have one set up at the moment--I just have a bunch of racks. I bought them from Animal Plastics, I didn't build them myself.
