    Purchasing adult BP

I have my eyes set on this really big boy. He is just over 5 years old and probably the biggest BP i have seen. He isn't fat. He is slightly longer and his head is a lot bigger. Now my question is this. Is there anything like a BP that is TOO big? and does anyone have any pictures of a bigger then norm BP?

Lots of stuff going on in this post. Assuming this BP is "bigger than the norm" its most likely a female. Regardless of its sex can you give us some actual details. You say "he is slightly longer." Slight longer than what. Head is a lot bigger than what. If you are considering buying this snake you should be able to get the weight and length of the snake and pass that along.

That is an inaccurate statement. There are some BIG boys out there.

How is it inaccurate. Females are generally larger than males. So a BP that is much larger than normal is most likely a female. I did not say it was most definitely a female, I said its probably a female. A male bigger than the largest female I have ever seen would be a very big male indeed.

i got males in the 2500 gram range. Size has NOTHING to do with sex. Of course its nature for females to be bigger, but not all females will be bigger than males.

    People have 4,000g + males.

Females, typically, are larger than males. That's true. But the way your post reads - to me - is you're saying that the OP probably isn't getting a male, but a female.

I'm just saying that just because it's bigger than normal doesn't indicate that it is for sure a female.

I knew a guy with a Grey Banded Kingsnake male that was so big he couldn't find a female for it. So anything is possible.

    Re: Purchasing adult BP

Anywho - my ADVICE to the OP is this: have the snake sexed and weighed by either a vet or a reliable breeder, if you feel this is necessary. If you're not going to be involved in breeding, sex and size won't matter, right?

If you just want the snake for a pet, go ahead and buy him/her, PROVIDED the BP is healthy. You don't want to lay down 100-250 bucks - whatever the person is asking for - and find the snake has intestinal or respiritory problems, or mites.

Mites are a kick in the pants, trust me.

and then say this in the next sentance?

No one is saying that all females are bigger than males. What I am saying is that if you have 5000 gram BP in front of you its most likely female. Again not saying it is female, I am saying that its reasonable to make the educated guess that its female. You should of course have that verified. If the snake turns out to be male that doesn't make the guess unreasonable, just wrong. Now if I am looking at that 5000 gram BP and a person tells me its a male, that person best have a great reputation or I am going to think to myself "Maybe I should sex this snake myself to be sure." My point was and still is, what does "bigger than normal" mean to the OP. If the OP has never seen a BP over 3000 grams then this whole post is as simple as "Oh yeah they can get pretty big." If on the other hand this is a 5000 gram male. I would say get it sexed to be sure cause boys that big are rare indeed.
