We launched our vid on s373 yesterday and things seem to go okay, but I would be lying if I didn’t say that I was a little dissapointed at how things didn’t blow up. When we did hr669 that vid and the action being taken because of that vid was incredible. We didn’t see anything like that with yesterdays vid. We got a lot of views and the comments were pretty decent although there were a lot of comment about this not passing. I get the feeling like everyone is just sitting back and saying, this isn’t go to pass, or someone else will fight this and beat it. Trust me if we don’t get people motivated and start to post this all over the place, sending e-mails to everyone, following those steps, we are going to be in trouble. It’s not just that this bill will pass into law, but it’s also the precedent that it sets for the next bill that will take more and more animals away from us. Come on people we are all killing ourselves here to fight for your rights, please get in the game and start to help out. We don’t want to look back and say ” wow, this one really did pass?” I’m not asking for you to spend the time that some of us are on this, but please try to do your part. No matter how small of a part you think it is it will make a huge difference if everyone just does something! Come on we do not have tons of time here, we need to get behind USARK, PIJAC, NATPET and any other organization that are standing up for us. Lets make their job easier, we can not put it all on them! I agree it does seem as if too many people don't care or are uneducated to the real facts. When i ask my coworkers about this ban they have no idea what i'm talking about and i work at Petsmart! I take pride in telling people the truth about the ban and the HSUS, most people would not know any other way.

No matter how many times i post "Stop the Snake Ban!!" On craigslist, its always flagged with in a few hours. I actually have fun reposting immediately with a different theme in my post. Just because this bill doesn't affect Ball Pythons doesn't mean it wont be amended to include them in the future!

I went to 6 pet stores this weekend to try and post flyers. Only 2 let me put them up. 1 store claimed that they couldn't take a political stance, and the other 3 stores said they didn't want to take a chance of scaring away potential customers...

I wish I had enough money to just buy my own ads on tv, radio, and newspapers. That would have been easier than driving all over the place, only to be rejected by the very people this is going to hurt... geez...

I agree Brian - we need to get people fired up about this. I made my parents watch this last night (not snake people) and they were shocked. I just got back from NC today and before I went to NC, I was making calls to my Senators' offices. One staffer called me this past week for one of my Senators and I'm getting back with him on dates and times that a group of us are available.

I'm also going to contact USARK because I think they're going to have a table at Repticon and see if I can print a bunch of letters for our Senators that can be signed at the show and I'll get them sent out to them.

I do hope that people ACTING and not just hoping that everyone else will do their part, so that they don't have to.

Robin, Here is an idea that maybe you could pass along. Maybe USARK or some of the vendors who are going to be at Charlotte could set up a laptop with wireless access at their table. Then people could send the letters to their Senators through NatPet straight from the Expo... Just a thought...

I'm in Canada, so I don't have much leverage in this. Even so, I've been emailing the White House and reps in key states to let them know that this ban will not just affect the American industry, but the Canadian reptile industry, which is still very much in its infancy. If the American companies start going down, I don't know how I'll take care of Baby the BP, Spartacus the crestie, or the milksnake I want. They're not 'just pets' to me, they're a part of my family.

I've sent all my letters, and I've been putting flyers around. PetCo said they would post it, and make the flyers available. Petsmart said company policy prohibited them from putting the flyers out, but they would put them in the employee break room. A feed store let me post one on the bulletin board.

The reason its not going like it did with hr669 is because this bill is limited to 9 species. If one more species was taken off the list you would see even less action against this bill. Not everyone wants the big guys in the reptile hobby. They dont fetch as much cash as the others do. Hopefully people will continue to fight and the video will spread more and more BUt not as many people care like they did with hr669

I suspect it's not so much people caring as it is that people are exhausted--which is exactly what they wanted when they drew up so many of these things all at once.
