The addiction to buying various snakes will stop. There is always that phase where you end up with about 40 snakes from 10 different species... But the addiction to reptiles itself will NEVER stop. I started out with 43 snakes and have compressed mine to mainly BPs, Spotteds/Childrens, Carpets, and corns.

    3.4 Corns Anery corns
    1.1 Coastal Carpet Pythons
    1.1 Childrens Pythons
    0.1 Spotted Python

    Sure it does

At least for a week or two

When I had one as a pet I never though I would breed, than I started to breed and I thought I would have 10-20 at the most, well 65 snakes and 5 species later I can tell you that obviously it has not really worked as planned.

Addiction? What addiction? It's not addicting, it's a way of life. You know, like eating and breathing.

Don't worry, it'll slow down once you realize you can't spend 24 hours a day scrubbing water bowls.

Re: Please Tell me the addiction stops....

ive had ball pythons for over ten years and my addiction is stronger than ever!
its hard not to be with all these crazy new morph combos coming out all the time. trust me, your addiction might not go away but you will learn to deal with it. that is unless your rich.
eg. you bought your first snake and terrarium, now you want more so you get a few more. then a few more after that. now your room is full.
then you find out that every good handler needs a quarantine room. that's when you realize its a great excuse to get another one.
now that space has become a major issue you realize that its time to build a rack.
ah.. then there is the expense of feeding day. and the guilt of not being able to locate enough rats to feed your whole collection.
the list of things can go on, and on, and on .....

what im trying to say is that sooner or later you will find a breaking point that will force you to say enough is enough. i want another one but cant afford to feed or house it. it all balances out in the end.
my best advice would have to be good luck and choose wisely when you buy. after all space is limited.

Re: Please Tell me the addiction stops....

Has not stopped for me. I started out with my first snake on December 5th, 2006. Within the year, I added 4 ball pythons. Now I have 11 snakes total, 8 of them being ball pythons. I have plans to expand my collection much much more! I'm hoping to get two more snakes in 2010 as well as breed two of my females.
    Under Construction.....

Re: Please Tell me the addiction stops....

Mine stopped for three years after I got my first one. Then I figured out how to easily maintain a Brazilian Rainbow (one of the most beautiful creatures I've ever seen), so I got one. Then I found the most beautiful Lesser ever. And bought him, with no urgent plans to breed.

One year after I bought the Lesser, I've added 10 more ball pythons and a Green Tree Python. My family thinks I'm insane. My friends (mostly) think it's only slightly insane. I'm in reptile heaven.

My budget needs me to stop buying new snakes for at least the next six months to a year, but I've got all I need to do several nifty projects, so that's fine. Muah ha ha ha ha!

Future living spaces will be required to have an extra bedroom to be the snake room. Yesssss, preciousssss, it will....

It has various phrases, if you ever get serious about breeding your collection will take off like a rocket. You will always say just one more but it never works out that way. I knew it was bad when the guest bedroom turned into a reptile room and the basement turned into a rodent breeding room. I plan on getting atleast 10 more snakes in 2010 for future breeding projects.
