my rats
So I sent a friend to get some young mice and he brought home young rats. I guess I now have 2 new pets lol. What I was curiouse about though, is that they have short rough fur and curly wiskers. The fur feels like someone gave them a buzz cut. The wiskers are signs of some different breeds of mice, but I cant find anything on the weird fur.... Any answers?
Thanks,
Amanda

They are carrying the hairless gene.

Re: my rats
They're probably some form of rex rats - their fur is short to long, generally with a curl or wave texture, and their whiskers are curly. (Which pretty much describes the ones in my tub . . . ) It's a co-dominant mutation; supers lose hair in patches that can cover most or all of their bodies. (Not quite the same as "hairless" - super rex / patchwork rex generally have no problem breeding, but hairless moms can have issues with lactation from what I'm told.)
Enjoy 'em!
