Your humidity problem has to do with having a heat lamp and a screen top. Any moisture is going to go right out the top with the hot air.

Yeah either getting rid of the overhead lamp, which would pretty much erase your problem. Or you could cover most of the screen with a damp cloth, just keep up with it to make sure its not too dry or too wet. Also what are you using to measure everything?

Cant get rid of the heat lamp will get way to cold the basement is 69 degrees Also measuring temps with two different digital probes and a digital thermometer device.. the black thing laying down by the log is one of them

yes i understand the heat lamp is huge asset and problem to my humidity thats why im trying to figure out what else i can do i cant remove the lamp without the tank getting to cold.

I don't know how people here feel about eco earth, but I love it; it is compressed coconut bark. And if you use a water spray bottle to mist the substrate as needed, that will give the tank the humidity you want. Just don't let the substrate get swampy as that could cause scale health problems. Damp is okay - especially if you have dry places for the snake to retreat.

And feel free to place a towel over a part of the tank. That also helps keep the temps and humidity up. Just ensure the tank gets good air circulation by removing the towel on a regular basis.

I don't see why you can't buy an Under Tank Heater(UTH) then you could lose the lamp. Just put some saran wrap over the top of the tank and a UTH and you will be good to go. Make sure you have a rheostat for your uth though so id doesn't burn your snake.

BTW, if you DO end up using a sponge you can disinfect it by placing it in the microwave for one minute. It will kill the bacteria.

This is the main reason I really dislike aquariums for caging. The only ventilation is through the top. However most people do like them because they make a much better visual display then cages specifically designed for snakes.

You might want to consider replacing one of your hide boxes with a plastic box filled with damp sphagnum moss. Put a hole in the side big enough for your snake to get in and out of, keep it moist in there at all times so he has a high humidity refuge.

A more expensive option may be to dump the aquarium and replace it with a visionarium from vision products. http://www.visionproducts.us/htm7/visionarium.html Without the screen top insert, get a solid top instead. You won't lose as much moisture when the ventilation is at the corners and it will still make a good visual display.

WAY TOO COLD for that even in a 10 gallon with just a UTH the right side is still 70 69 degrees

I am thinking about this actually what i have been thinking about is mixing the aspen as well as the eco earth that was it gets best of both worlds
