    Re: do BP's hiss?

I've had mine since April and he has only hissed once and that was during the second week he was home It was pretty funny because he was wrapped around me like a belt, stuck his neck out into the open away from me, and then hissed at the air basically LOL. He's goofy and has never done it since.

Some brushes have an air-filled rubber base which the bristles are stuck into. Push on it quickly, and it sounds like a snake's hiss, LOL!

    Re: do BP's hiss?

My smallest girl used to hiss when you picked up her hide, or picked her up....or so I'm told. I have funky hearing and can't actually hear them hiss. I have seen her hiss though. I saw her sides move funny, and my friend that was there with me told me that she was hissing At least I know what to look for. She's gotten over the 'big bad snake' syndrome since she has been handled more often. ^_^

However, not being able to hear the hiss is a very good reason why I won't ever own a snake that is big enough to actually hurt me... hissing is the kind of sign you want to be aware of! (and rattling....can't hear that either!)

It was kind of cute when my Mojave hatchling hissed at me the first time. It really takes a lot out of them to get that hiss out lol. He was just going into shed though, I understood the crankiness.

I get hissed at on a daily basis, if I don't hear hissing in the snake room that's when I get worried

Some of mine hiss regularly and some don't. I find it cute...and it rarely deters me from pestering them.

    Re: do BP's hiss?

I don't know a single snake I've ever encountered that doesn't have the ability to hiss..

    pythons, boas, vipers, cobras, colubrids..

I guess I've never thought about sand boas, I've never seen one be pissy before, and they just don't look like they could ever be "hissy" in particular, but I bet they could if they wanted to.

As with eventide, I find it cute too

When I first got my coastal carpet python, she would put on a show whenever I got too close for her comfort. She'd hiss and get coiled up and puff up, but that wore off very quickly as she settled. She was just shook up from shipping and being somewhere new, understandable especially for a young snake. Never struck once, it was all for show.

My 09 spider and normal used to hiss at me all the time until they got used to me handling them and they no longer hiss. They used to strike at me too but now their cool.

    Re: do BP's hiss?

I have a bp that will hiss constantly when i hold her but it almost sounds like a weeze. when i feel her muscles contract i hear her hiss a little, is this bad news? keep in mind she has been doing it since i got her about 3 months ago and i have not noticed and infection development and seems perfectly healthy regardless.
