    New Amel Girl!

I just picked up a beautiful 3 year-old female Amel (what kind??), for only $20 on craigslist. The guy's teenage son was given the snake by a friend, and he's since lost interest - so the dad was sick of caring for it. Their loss, my gain! She might be moving into the library at my school (where I work), which I was talking about on the general herp forum... but for now she's living in my bedroom, and settling into her new tub right now. She is a real sweetie, and I can't wait to introduce her to my students. No name yet, but here she is:

She loves my hair... please excuse the fro, LOL

I don't know how to sex them yet, so I asked the owner how he knew... he said she laid eggs last year, and therefore assumed she's a she.

Thanks! I think she's beautiful too, especially the orange highlights... is she just a "regular Amel" or something else?

Oh, and is the 28qt tub big enough for her? I also have a few extra 41qt tubs, but thought that would be too roomy... she'll probably be in a 20gal tank eventually, once I move her to the school.

28q is fine. A 20g would also do fine as well.

Did they have other snakes? I am guessing no.So he is probably guessing still. If you can get a pic of the vent area back to the tail we might be able to give you a 80% on the sexing. If you are not going to breed it then if you are wondering for a name it will never know the differance

Nope, they didn't have any other snakes... will males lay infertile eggs too??

I'll try to get that picture later, and will post it here. I would like to breed her, if she is in fact a HER... since I already have a male Aztec Reverse Okeetee & will soon be getting a male ghost. So it would help to know the gender, LOL.

Cool, thanks... I'll leave her in the 28qt for now!
