BRB help

I got about a 6-8 month old Brazilian rainbow a month ago and in the past week it appears to be developing some sort of fungus/rot on it's back. It has also faded in color significantly. When it was purchased it already had a couple of mites on it, which i was able to rid it of. I was keeping my snake on Coco Soft and keeping humidy at around 70 with spikes to around 80. I have since been keeping it on paper towels in order to keep mites out. I spoke with a BRB breeder at repticon yesterday, and he said that he thought it was probably some sort or fungus and that i should always stick with well saturated paper towels as substrate. He recommended rubbing my snake down with betadine which may cause some pain to the snake but should kill the fungus off. The fungus appears around groups of 2-4 scales and surrounds each scale with black. My snake just recently shed and its retained eyecaps did fall off and seems very happy. It has never struck at me or showed any signs of aggression. Any help/input would be appreciated greatly.

When the smart people see this and tell the OP whats going on can they also explain to me what to look for?

I can't see anything I wouldn't put down as a normal pattern change.

They have some baby BRB's in my local shop and I had been tempted till I realised I knew this little.

Yeah they really arent that difficult, i just happened to get one in bad condition. But the places that im concerned with are the black scales forming inside the orange circles on the back. The snake initially had orange circles that were completely orange, but as of recently the scales surrounded with black fungus? are spreading. Maybe im just overreacting but im just making sure.

It really doesn't look like any type of fungus to me, just a change in coloration and pattern as he ages.
