What do you give your ASF's to chew on?

I put some pieces of wood in the tub for them to chew on, and I also put some cardboard .

I think they prefer chewing on the cardboard.

also , what kind of veggie matter do you throw in for them?
do you just feed them strictly rat chow.
I tossed in some grapes and they seem to love them, I've read about others using carrots, apples. Is there anything that should be avoided?

They love grapes, they enjoy carrots and they go crazy for popcorn. As for chew toys I put old instant oatmeal boxes in there. I also have some left over wood from building my rack that I throw in and they chew the hell out of it.

    popcorn ?

I would have never thought to give them that.

    freakie frog,

you're not kidding. I went to grab one (with gloves on) and he bit down pretty hard on the glove. I wouldn't handle 'em without gloves. since , judging from that bite on the glove , I think it probably would have drawn blood.

But what he isn't telling you, it usually isn't his finger that gets bit.

Rats will eat just about anything. The only thing I've ever heard of that you shouldn't feed a rat is oranges. Even then, I think it's just males you can't feed oranges to. Mine love sunflower seeds and pizza crust.

My rats are deprived they only get lab block and water bottles. Did have one set chew through a metal water bottle holder though.

i give mine empty oatmeal cans. They can chew it up and it makes a little house for them. its kinda funny because they peel the layers off instead of just chewing the crap outta it.
Other than that, they get some wood scraps too.

rib bones and chicken wing bones are the favorites of my colony when available.

I don't provide any permanent chew toys any more. I just use pine that has enough chunky pieces to chew on. Of course my motto is "Keep it simple stupid"

My dad's Pecan tree started dropping ripe pecans now, so I've been giving those to my rats for hard chew toys with tasty centers
