A psuedo what I should get thread.

I'm interested in getting either a bumblebee or a killerbee. After many weeks of looking, I've found one of each that are the best examples of their respective morphs that I've ever seen. I don't have the love affair with bees that most do, but they are a great animal to have in a breeding group, so that is the main reason I'm lookint at them
I don't necessarily have the money for either at this point in time, but will be saving for either after I get my racks built and purchase the YB female I'm looking at, so that isn't really an issue, but $1500 could purchase a few more nice animals.
The thing is, the killerbee is $2500 and the bumblebee only $1000. I know that Killers will throw at least a pastel in every egg, but in your opinion is that worth the extra $1500?

Well, with the going rate on pastels, how many pastels are you going to have to sell to make up the $1500 difference?

Its all up to you in the end, but personally, I'd pick up a bee and make my own killers if that is something you want. Getting at least a pastel from every egg wouldn't be enough motivation for me. Now if I had the money to drop and didn't want to wait, then sure.

I did forget to add, that my final goal isn't a killerbee, but something that I don't think has been done yet, in the sterling bee.

    Hi,

I would think a lot depends on what you plan to do with the genes really.

If your eventual goal is an axanthic killerbee for example breeding a killerbee to an axanthic beats a bumblebee purely because each hatchling has to be at least a pastel het axanthic.

If you only need a limited number of pastel offspring the the killerbee might just be overkill for the project.

If you're buying a male, get a killer bee, if you're buying a female go a head and get the bumble bee. I say get a male killer bee because you are less likely to sell him after 1-2 seasons of breeeding because of being easily replaced. I say a bumblebee female because killer bees will come down in price but having a killer bee female up to size is a invaluable asset to any breeder's collection.

I see what your saying, but if I get the Sterling Bee, I probably will not use either Killer or Bumble bee afterwards.

    Bumblebee x Pewter
    6.25% WT
    6.25% Het. Cinnamon,
    6.25% Het. Spider,
    6.25% Het. Spider, Het. Cinnamon,
    12.5% Het. Pastel,
    12.5% Het. Pastel, Het. Cinnamon,
    12.5% Het. Pastel, Het. Spider,
12.5% Het. Pastel, Het. Spider, Het. Cinnamon,
    6.25% Homozygous Pastel,
    6.25% Homozygous Pastel, Het. Cinnamon,
    6.25% Homozygous Pastel, Het. Spider,
6.25% Homozygous Pastel, Het. Spider, Het. Cinnamon

    Killerbee x Pewter
    12.5% Het. Pastel,
    12.5% Het. Pastel, Het. Cinnamon,
    12.5% Het. Pastel, Het. Spider,
12.5% Het. Pastel, Het. Spider, Het. Cinnamon,
    12.5% Homozygous Pastel,
    12.5% Homozygous Pastel, Het. Cinnamon,
    12.5% Homozygous Pastel, Het. Spider
12.5% Homozygous Pastel, Het. Spider, Het. Cinnamon

That's a 6% increase on a $1500 difference for a snake thatI would really only need for 1 year. I don't know that, business-wise, that would be worth it.

you could also see it as a 100% increase, double the chance per egg hitting the combo you want.

Imagine not hitting it that first year after getting a bumblebee. Would you feel like you made the wrong decision in picking a less expensive chance? Or would you be content and try again next year?

Think about the reverse, hitting incredible odds with a killerbee. Would you think "gee this was a good investment", or would you think "I wish I'd saved some money and just bought the bumblebee".

All things to consider when making the right decision for you. Sometimes it's just too expensive, I know I couldn't afford a killerbee.

Very good points. I said money wasn't really an issue because I can just save up longer for the killer, but money not being an issue is never really the case. I'm feeling that that $1500 difference might just be a little high. I think I'll probably end up going with a bumblebee just because I could buy a few nice morph females that I'm looking at for that money

As a breeder there is nothing better than predictability when it come to base morph production. Being about to predict with in reason the offspring helps better decide and plan for holdbacks. In that respect a Killer Bee is way better for the price you'll be hard pressed to find a better return on investment than a super anything.
