    hides

ok im new to BPs. i do not have one yet, i will be getting one at a reptile show on nov 7th. i will be getting a baby. im using a 15qt sterlight container for enclosure. i have a heat pad on one side. the temps are around 92 in the hot hide and around 80 on the cool side. the hot hide is a small exoterra snake rock that i won a few months ago, i think it will be fine. i bought a small plastic container for the cool side but i cant seem to find a dark colored bowl for some reason. is there a safe way to paint the bowl? i have a peice of PVC 2" pipe but its open on two sides and i dont think he would like it. thanks

Try a place where they sell house plants and potting things. You can get those plastic pot bottoms for next to nothing. They are used to put underneath a pot to keep the water from leaking out. They work great and come in all sizes.

    Re: hides

Your best bet will be to have 2 identical hides, because if the snake feels more secure in one, then they may choose security over the need to thermoregulate. I would recommend getting another cave hide. If you can't find one at your local store, you can order one from the internet or there should be vendors at the show selling them. Personally, I use the Reptile Basics hides. They are relatively in-expensive, easy to clean, and dark. If you are going to the South Carolina show, Reptile Basics will probably have a table there. They are based in North Carolina and usually have a rep at the local shows, or Cold Blooded Novelties will sell their stuff for them. As for painting a bowl, I don't know. I've never done it. You might could try looking at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, or one of the Dollar stores to see if they have some colored plastic bowls and make hides out of them. Hopefully these links may help...
