    heat wire for incubator?

i decided i wanted to build my incubator early just to make sure i dont run into any problems on the way (i did). I am using "heat wire" (used to keep pipes and gutters from freezing) as suggested by a DIY on here somewhere (i dont remember where tho). I bought a 6 ft length of it and plugged it in and waited for it to heat........ nothing. Ive tried different outlets. Ive tried it with a thermostat. Nothing. The indicator light to show it has power lights up but no heat. Am i doing something wrong? do i need extra hardware? any help would be great. and please dont say "use flex watt" because ive considered that option and thats next up.

if you got it from a supplier, give them a call to see whats the problem. Ive never heard of heat wire (ive heard of heat cable being used for reptiles, etc) but not this.

Maybe you got a defective unit?

cinderbird's advice is probably going to be your best bet. If they can't tell you what your doing wrong then it is probably a defective unit and they should replace it.

Btw how long did you wait for it to heat up?

if it is the same stuff used to keep freezer drain lines from freezing that only heats to like 50, just high enough to keep it from freezing. that will not get warm enough.

Really? I've had heat wire warming my incubator for the past two years. 89.7˚F 24/7
