keeping a mouse for a couple days
i bought the last "jumbo" mouse the shop had and went to feed the snake, but his eyes are completely blue, so i want to keep this mouse to feed him in a day or two. i stuck him (the mouse) in a kritter keeper with aspen. what should i feed him? anything particularly good to load it up for the snake? dog food?

I believe dog food can be fed to rats, but I'm not sure about mice.
I do know that mice looove cereal! Something without sugar, like plain cherrios if you have them.
Mice aren't picky, if you only have to keep them fed for a few days you can feed them almost anything. Veggies, crackers, nuts, bread- they seem to like all of the above.

they eat grains, nuts, berries, fruit (i think) etc. You can give him a few pieces of dog food. When i had live temporary feeders i gave them grain based cereals like crispix and special K.

I was in the same situation a few weeks ago. I fed him a bunch of corn flakes, and the little thing ate 'em up!
 Dude, where did Bob go?

Re: keeping a mouse for a couple days
Why don't you try and feed him first? A lot of snakes have no issue eating in shed. You can feed a mouse just about anything to keep it around a few days, scrap food, bread, greens, dog food, seeds, pasta.

Re: keeping a mouse for a couple days
i'm not going to feed him because he was very shy and balling up when i lifted his hide. i picked him up and he didn't want un-ball at all, and he normally doesn't ball up ever. i've only had him a few months, and this is his first shed since i've had him. i'll just wait. the kids'll get attached to mouse though.
i just fed the mouse out of the hermit crab food. walnut, flax and sunflower seeds, dried veggies, some scrambled egg, parsley, collards, couple pieces of dog food... hopefully he'll be packed full of nutrients.

I try to keep a bag of mazuri around for those feeders that do not get eaten right away. plus some scraps like others mentioned and they're good to go.

I would also say (if you are going to have it for 2-3 days) find some way to get it some water. I have used the lids off of drinks. If you are feeding dry grains and things like that it will need water.

water is more important than food, but make sure to provide both.
