Re: how much would you pay for this 1000+ albino female?

I would inquire about her feeding. What does she eat? From that picture it looks like she is being fed live rats and has sustainted multiple bites. Or she is being improperly handled or housed (bad shedding?) causing scale damage. That kind of damage can lead to internal infection and months of sheds to completely disappear.

Get more info on her from the seller. If he is unwilling to be honest with you about her condition, feeding habits, housing etc.... Then he is not someone you want to deal with anyway.

As for an offer.. If she is healthy. Id say around $1200-$1400.

thanks everyone, it's really hard to find out a fair price these days, especially with the economy, web pages being old and out of date, and canada vs US and all that. we have offered $1200 for her, who knows weather or not he's gonna take it. i've asked to see more pictures of her in different lighting. to me, those brown speckles look to be like dust on the lens. he's gonna get back to me by early next week.

i got my female pastel from him a few months back who is in perfect health. the albino is eating f/t large adult rats, which is what leads me to believe the spots are dust on the lens, not bites. this is why i have requested more photos, in different lighting. and i *believe* she is being kept on paper towel, but come to think of it he may have said newspaper. he keeps and breeds many other types of reptiles, geckos, tortoises, bearded dragons, etc. just privately. he bought an albino, spider, and pastel with plans to breed but then his wife got pregnant and tra la la she wants him to sell off some of the reptiles! so far i've ended up with the pastel and now maybe the albino.

if you look closely, the brown specles are in focus with the snake which means they are not on the lens (the snake is one plain, the lens is another, and the CCD of the camera is another, depending on what is in or out of focus will tell you where the dirt is in the system). Those specs look to be on the snake itself.

And, IMO, i'd ask for an image with some kind of scale (a quarter or a ruler or the snake in a scale) the floor boards compared to the snake is what would make me wonder.

I have never heard of a snake putting on 800+ grams in one year when not power fed??? Maybe some of the bigger breeders on here have seen it but my animals are all the slowest growers on earth lol. I have a mid 06 females that are pushing 1300 grams and have never missed a feeding. I think I just got the runts lol.

800 grams in a year would have to be an early hatch animal if it wasnt powerfed.
i have 2 06 that are less than 800 grams they just eat mice and are somewhat picky

Just offer what you are willing to pay! I would offer $800 and see what he says! Start lower than what you want then work with him! He will give you an idea of what he wants if you go low! You go high and he will jump on it!

i have an 08 spider that is 800+ grams, wasn't powerfed. eating around 2 mice a week (in 1 feeding), or 1 very small (4-5 week hamster) once a week. i also have an 08 female pastel that is feeding on either 2 mice, or 1 gerbil once a week. she is 518 grams. however, she has gone on 2 feeding strikes lasting over 1.5 months. she is a very shy eater, will only eat live, since i got her (the previous owner got her as only eating live) and usually only in the dark.

i have an early 08 spider who's pushing 1000 grams. she just eats and grows. I don't power feed. I got her in... June i think at 600 something grams. I'd have to look it up. She does get any refusals from animals that aren't in quarantine though. (Either her or my big normal female, depends on who wants what that day).

Re: how much would you pay for this 1000+ albino female?

so here she is! we got her yesterday. we offered $1200, but someone at the show said to ask $1700 for her! which i personally thought was a bit too much, considering she isn't going to be ready for breeding until next year. apparently everyone else he offered her to thought $1700 was too much as well. so we ended up paying $1400 for her, and before we put her in her tub she weighed in at 1136grams. another full year of growing and she should be up to breeding weight by next season! our male spider ball python is waiting patiently...but without further ado, here are some pics (as you guys can see, that first photo was a rather crappy one; really low light and i think there must have been some sort of dirt or dust on the sensor)

haha, in case anyone is wondering, that strange line in the first pic that looks like a scar, it's actually an indent from her curling up on the underside of a kitty litter pan on the way home. i FREAKED when i first saw this (as it was my boyfriend who broght her home from the city) but after i saw the litter pan i knew what it was all about.

anyways this brings me to another question, for another thread:

is it standard for albino BP's to be two different shades of yellow?
