    New Questions

    1. I know my snake is a BCI but i kinda want to know what type of morph it is the reason i ask is because i went to the pet store and i seen these american boas and they looked identical to my boa but then today after my snake shed she showed not so much signs of a american boa any advice?

    2. My snake has hit the 2 foot mark and i want to know if she is ready for the 40 gallon and if not when do you think? She is in a 10 gallon now and i really would rather not go and buy a 20 gallon just for a few months if you know what i mean.

    3. If i decide to go to a tub for my boa and just leave out the 40 gallon even tho i really dont want to but if i do what are some things that i need such as flex watt the whole 9 yards thanks alot

    Re: New Questions

I think you mean subspecies of boa, not morph. Best way to get an opinion would be to post a picture!

40 gallon would be fine (tub is better than a glass cage), heat pad and some way to control it (rheostat, thermostat, lamp dimmer), thermometer, hydrometer.....substrate, water dish?

    Re: New Questions

a ranco? I have no clue what that is =P Anyways, if you want to go cheap, buy a sterilite container from wal-mart, $10, acurite thermostat/hydrometer, $10, substrate, free newspaper/paper towel, water dish, stainless steal pet water dish $5, lamp dimmer, home depot $15. Really the thing you need to spend the most on is the heat pad, probably $20-25. A decent thermostat can be bought from lllreptile for $24, and is really worth it....way better quality and control than a dimmer.

    Re: New Questions

The ranco is a digital on/off thermostat and very widely used. It'll run $75 but its one of the cheapest digital units and works well.

You also have to figure out what exactly you have. If you have a common BCI then there is no way even a 40 gallon will be big enough but if you have some other smaller subspecies you might get away with it. You probably just have a normal common BCI. If you have a female, she could potentially hit 9ft. Why buy a 40 gallon tank that the snake WILL outgrow in a year or two?

Glass tanks are about the worst enclosure for a larger snake anyway. A tub setup or a nice snake cage is the way to go. Unfortunately these things cost money but a nice boaphile or animal plastics cage is a one time purchase that'll last the life of the animal. You'll save alot of money in the long run.

Yes, to tag on to that, I meant a 40 gallon would be fine at the size of it now, certainly not for life.
