Thanks (Deborah) for the hide idea!

Mona, who weighs around 2000g (at least before her breeding fast) was already WAY squished in her extra-large exoterra cave... then I introduced her mate for the season, Toby, a few weeks ago. They both decided to use the hide together, and that's when it was clear an upgrade was needed. I literally had to peel it off of them, and caught Mona sleeping with her head sticking out the back-end last night.

I couldn't find anything commercial that's bigger than her old cave, so I used Deborah's idea on the "hides my way" sticky thread. I just happened to have a spare small litter pan laying around, so after a bit of scrubbing & cutting, I have a FREE brand new hide - and they love it! Considering I did this all with an exacto-knife and lighter (to smooth the edges), I think it turned out pretty nice:

    Still haven't noticed it...

But a few minutes later, we have two very satisfied & comfortable BPs.

Looking at it now, I may have cut the opening a bit large... but they don't seem to mind, since neither are particularly shy snakes. But they both do like having a hide, which is why I left it in during the breeding process. I tried removing it for about half a day, and Mona wouldn't stop pacing and trying to escape from the tub. I caught them copulating (or at least trying) in the old cave, so it doesn't seem to hinder their activities.

And your not afraid they'll "hide" the deed?

Re: Thanks (Deborah) for the hide idea!

I bought a large (very large) tupperware bowl the other day at Wal-Mart (it had a defect and was half off) for 3 bucks. Took it him and did the same thing from the sticky. I used an exacto and a lighter to smooth out the cut too! I had to spray paint it black because it was clear, but yay for hides that fit. This one actually has some room in it for Prada to grow. She was hanging out all of the sides of the last one. At least I can re-use it for my boy when he gets bigger. Those stickys sure are handy!

    Glad it works for you.

Small cat litter pans rock............................at my store they must start thinking I am the crazy cat lady given the number of litter pans I bought ...............in reality I am only the crazy snake lady

A useful tool to have also is this http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...59L&lpage=none it will cut through those very easily.

They certainly weren't hiding it when I checked on them today! I peeked in and found them mostly in the hide, with only their perfectly locked tails sticking out...

LMAO... I'm a little of both, I think.

Yeah, I definitely need one of those! Somebody also recommended another tool for me, but I forget what it's called... kind of like an electric sander? Sheesh, I didn't know my snakes would turn into a carpentry hobby!

LOL... I posted them on the breeding forum, but here ya go.

    Lock & Load!

They've been scooting the hide around all day, and "doing their thing" both in and out of it... guess I should call it their love nest from now on, huh?
