Playing hide and seek, but not in the hides
Hello everyone,
I've had my new spider for almost a week now and I believe she is adjusting ok. Warm side about 93 degrees and cool side about 80 degrees. I'm waiting on a small heater and dimmer to come because the cool side is a bit too cool for my liking. I've notice that she doesn't really use her hides (or at least on the warm side), but instead she uses the crumpled newspaper I put around the tub. I took everyone's advice about putting newspaper in the tub to make them feel better. She don't roam during the day and is quite active at night exploring the tub, so I get the impression she is not all that stressed. Maybe she just feels more secure borrowing under the newspaper.
I'm just wonder if it's one of these cases where 'you buy a kid a new toy and the kid plays with the paper instead of the toy' type of things.
Also, she has two identical small rock hides, which i think she might feel a bit exposed in. I do have 2 identical medium hides that I could use and put the crumpled newspaper in that so she doesn't feel as exposed.
What should I do? Should I even worry?
I plan on feeding her her first meal tomorrow.

Try feeding tomorrow, if she eats don't change a thing.

I just got her food in the mail and have a little pinky mouse thawing as we speak.
I just wanted to check and make sure since I'm new to all this.

Pinky mice are too small for ball pythons, they have a tendency not to respond to them. Hoppers or even small adult mice are good for babies.

Yeah, pinkie mice are not substantial enogh for a ball python. Try a hopper or a small adult mouse.

I start off with rat fuzzies or pups.

Really?! The breeder I bought her from said he feels her 1 Large pinky mouse twice a week. hmm, I have a bit of a dilemma then. I've bought about 20 large pinky mouse and I'm hoping that will due until payday. Should I feed her two mice for the time being?

If it eats it then use them up but it doesn't then go bigger! I would go with a rat fuzzy next time!

Thanks everyone for letting me know. I hope she takes it until I can upgrade the size.
