Just got my new Lesser from Adam at 8ball DUW

I was surprised how well he took the de-miting procedure, my females were freaked when I did it to them, but he just winced a bit and balled up then was fine in two minutes.

Hopefully I got this whole photo album thing right, I never really upload albums online. I'll get better pictures in the future, I didn't feel like getting out the digital camera as I wanted to get him situated quickly instead of keeping him out for an hour while I took pictures, so I just used my phone.

He's handsome! But de-miting process? What exactly is that? I simply pre-treat enclosures with Provent a Mite when I bring in new additions - stress free, no squirming involved.

It says right on the bottle:

Spray directly on reptile, but not to excess (runoff). Avoid spraying eyes and facial areas. Alternatively spray on cloth and wipe on reptile.

So that's what I do, spray them and wipe them off, then put them in their tub (which has been treated as well).

Oh and on a side note about the mites, I strongly doubt he has any to begin with, but that's how superstition works

Also Adam is a great guy, would recommend him to anyone.

I quarantine my acquisition in another room where there is no others. That way I am sure they are fine.

Well, everyone do their way but I prefer to not stress mine too much.

Re: Just got my new Lesser from Adam at 8ball DUW

I do have him in "quarantine", which is just in a tub that's in a 20 gallon tank that's on the other side of the room from my other snakes. That's the sad part about only having one room to work with.

Even if I had another room, though, I'd have sprayed him, the box, and myself down in the same way I did, it's to hopefully stop having future mites coming in, and I've never had a mite problem so, why change?

And now for the next couple weeks I'll change his water and clean the tub and the tank if it needs to be done, and then I'll try feeding him, and around November I'll move him into the rack with the rest of my snakes.

Aww, he's been spending all his time chilling on the rim of the water dish, I think he's sleeping on it.

Re: Just got my new Lesser from Adam at 8ball DUW

NICE lesser. Cant get enough lessers

I dont think reptile relief is a mite prevention tool though. i think its to ..relieve reptiles who are already suffering from mites. I suggest you get a can of Prevent A Mite, i use it on all my new additions tubs when i bring them home. I got it because a snake of mine came to me with a SUPER bad case of mites, while i soaked her, i sprayed her tub and after 30 mins i put her back in her enclosure and within seconds the mites were falling off dead. I think within 15 mins there was not a living mite left. There were also no subsequent re infestations.

    cant go wrong with PAM!
