    tanks vs racks

Allright so i have two snakes my first is my lovely Columbian Red Tail Boa which is about 24 inches.... The second snake which is a very pretty ball python. I have them both in a 10 gallon tank with two UTH and all the materials they could ever have. But you all are probably wondering what is his question.

My question is I hear so many people talking about racks and tubs and things of this nature. I would love to get a rack and a nice one of that but im thinking to my self my ball python is only going to get 5 ft. and my Boa is going to get prolly 7 to 9 ft maybe bigger so if i get a rack i would basically be wasting money..

Also if you guys know any other forum that i could check out let me know thanks

So the main question is what to do about the whole rack system and can you switch to bigger wtihout upgrading the framework. If you guys can give pics as well this would be great and also a direct answer like what you guys really think i could do with my dilemma thanks alot

    Re: tanks vs racks

Im pretty new around here but Ill give it a try. Are you saying your Ball Python and your Red Tail Boa are in the same tanks? I dont think that is a good idea, might not be safe (actually sounds like something bad waiting to happen) but Ill leave that to someone else who knows more about that. But what I do know is that I have a rack for my geckos, that holds 21 15qt tubs. Thats 7 shelves, 3 per shelf. I can easily take out some of the 15 quart tubs and put in 32qt tubs. Then it will hold 7 32qt tubs and 7 15qt tubs. Off the top of my head i dont remember what size the next size up tub is, but if I decided to it could just hold 7 of those. So as you see you can change it with your current needs. I have to say I did personally build this rack so i dont know if the ones that you buy convert so easily. I hope this helps. (BTW, I am new to Ball Pythons so mine are in tanks so I can learn them. So no I havent put them in tubs or my rack.) Here is a pic of my rack if you were interested. (This was before I put the heat tape and the back of it on.)

    Re: tanks vs racks

the real question here isnt fi you should get a rack or stay with cages.
the real question is how many more animals do you plan on buying?
do you enjoy veiwing your snakes daily?

racs are meant for breeders and collectors who have lots of animals and need more space, they are just tanks that have been optimized for space, ease of cleaning and movability.

if all you plan on having is those 2 snakes your best bet is a neodesha(sp?)
cage or a vision setup. both are attractive dispaly cages.
either way if their in the same tank you need to seperate them pronto

    Re: tanks vs racks

Well. Tubs are FAR better for maintaining heat and humidity. For these reasons alone I recommend tubs, even though I use tanks myself I plan to switch.

Tubs are also tremendously cheaper, and your snake feels more secure.

However tanks are much nicer to view, let's be honest.

    Your choice.

That is a brand of reptile enclosures. They have sliding glass openings or doors and are made of some type of plastic, so they are very light. The problem I have heard some people dont like them is because of their dimensions and the fact that they dont stack. Personally i like them alot, some dont. I have an older one, they stopped making them a while back and have started again in the last few years. The new ones are a little different but generally the same thing, I could take a pic of mine later if you would like.
