    Exclamation Warning

    Hey guys,

Last night, I heard some rustling in the tub near the computer. I looked over to see my new pastel dragging around the Accurite thermometer. How? Well the was halfway through the thing that flips down so that it can stay up which has a hole in the middle of it. She could not get it off, so I had to cut the plactic and rip off that flipping part. So this is just a warning for anyone who might have them in their enclosures, you might want to cut this part off so your snake does not get stuck in it.

Moral of the story: things that may seem harmless may not be as they seem.o, double check for any things that couild possible hurt your reptile and remove them!

    Hope I've Helped,
    Kevin

That's a good reminder. I remember that issue coming up for someone years ago and have removed that little widget off the backs of them ever since....but haven't thought to mention it in a long time.

I just keep those tabs closed up against the unit and velcro the whole unit to the back of the cage. In fact, I don't see why one would leave the unit 'freestanding' as it is - too easy to drag around, knock over, or otherwise interfere with. No offense to those who do so, of course.

I think there was another thread about this same thing happening when I first joined the site a few months ago.

I do the same thing, and have issued the same warning when recommending the Accurite to folks, to remind them NOT to use the flip down stand, because your snake WILL attempt to crawl through it.

All of my AccuRites are velcro'd to the inside of the enclosure, at ground level on the cool side.
