Day/Night Cycle?
I am going to try my luck with the 1.3 group of ASF's I just purchased...
Do these guys need to have a day/night cycle? I have them in my laundry room which doesn't get much light at all during the day.

Doesn't matter.

I asked the same question when I got mine...they live in my dark bathroom closet and thrive, just THRIVE!

So, I'm researching this. This thread says it's absolutely not necessary. Other ASF breeders are telling me it's absolutely necessary to have 12 hours day, 12 hours night.
Any info would be appreciated. My friend, who is in on the BPs and ASFs with me, is adamant that we have to have the light. It sure would be easier if we don't.
thanks

Mine get light from windows, and nothing else. They seem fine.

If you research enough on this forum you will see that Mike definatley knows his stuff and you can believe anything he says. He says no need for light then DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!

Re: Day/Night Cycle?
I have been breeding ASF's for a few years now and I keep all my racks in my insulated shed with a window unit A/C through the wall and an oil heater in the winter. I installed a light with a switch in the shed, but the only time it gets turned on is in the evening when my wife goes out to feed them or clean them and that is it. I have four racks six tubs high and one rack with eight tubs. All of them produce like crazy. I keep all 21 of my snakes fed including babies and the local pet store in stock.
The insulated part of the shed is sealed tight (no light at all comes in). I hope this clears it up for you. They dont need a light cycle at all to be healthy and breed, good luck.
