Re: Degei, iHerp, Index Card, or other???

Loaded all my info in iherp yesterday...so far so good. Pondering on how long to backtrack or just start fresh.

Re: Degei, iHerp, Index Card, or other???

It took me less than 20 minutes to download Degie and all of the updates. (even rebooted the computer after the initial install) and I quite possibly have the slowest, most worthless computer on the face of the earth.

If you think you might like it for the index card printing then you will love it for the hundred other things it can do too. You can print certificates of origin with the blood line on it, track pairing and copulation of snakes, it will give you a report of all breeding sized snakes, you can even track bowel movements with it.

My favorite part of it is that you can add the price of the feeders, and also track the feeders you have in inventory. You can print out statements showing you what certain snakes are costing you per year to feed and care for, and what they are making you from breeding. The bar code feature costs money so I do not really use it, but if I start making enough money off my snakes I deffinately will pay to upgrade to the full version.

I had no idea this stuff was around.

I just use excel spreadsheet to track everything but I am going take a good look at some of these.

    Thank you for enlightening me

    Cheers!

Re: Degei, iHerp, Index Card, or other???

My records are kept on an info sheet I made in MS Word. Easy and simple. The sheets are kept in folders on the wall near the cages, like this:

Here's a closeup of one of the sheets:

I've been using this method for a while now and I like it. I wouldn't use a computer program because I would forget to enter the info, and I couldn't see the info whenever I wanted to.

I use iHerp since I only have one snake. It is a great way for me track to everything.

Re: Degei, iHerp, Index Card, or other???

I use Excel because my computer is on 24/7/365 (so it's convenient for me), and I'm not so great at keeping papers organized. Plus, I can easily e-mail someone info on a particular snake if they want it.
