That's funny....my het pied gal likes to move her hide around as well. I kind of figured she was just making herself extra comfy.

    Re: Sign of intelligence

Snickets used to have a cork hide, but it was a bit too big for her tub so we've since replaced it. Even though they can't show emotion, I'm pretty sure she loved that cork hide. Our guess is she liked the texture. So after taking out the cork, she ignored the new hide we gave her. After a few hours of this, I broke off part of the cork and set it under the hide to see if it would coax her inside of it. She ended up sitting on the part of the cork that wouldn't fit under the hide I think she finally saw that most of the cork was inside of the hide and went in, then I took the cork out from the hide. I still have that little piece in there though, and occasionally I'll find her curled up on it.

    Re: Sign of intelligence

Baby is familiar with his carrier, and will crawl into it of his own accord if we're out and about and he's tired of being oohed and aahed over. At a vet check however, when the vet was checking inside his mouth, he didn't like that and squirmed away. Instead of going to his carrier, which was right beside him, he crawled across the table to me and hid his face in my hair.

Also, he's had a branch that he likes to perch and do his branch potato thing on since forever, at one point I wound a fake vine around it to see if he'd like the extra hiding place. I came back into the room a few hours later to find the leaves of the vine all pushed down to one side...in front of his hide.

Apparently the little diva likes me as a hiding place, but is less than thrilled with my interior design ideas.

    Re: Sign of intelligence

My hog island boa will wait for me to get home every day to stick just the first 6-8" of her neck out of her hide so she can see what I'm doing when I come in. I didn't really notice it at first and just assumed she always kept her head out but I started looking in the cage as soon as I'd get home and she wouldn't be out and within a minute she'd rearrange herself so she could stick her head out and watch me.
On the weekends when I'm home all day and night she usually won't even put her head back in her hide, it's like she knows I'm still there even if I turn the lights off and just sit there playing a game or watching tv, somehow she can tell that's different from when all the lights are off when I'm not home.
My albino doesn't really seem to care either way, although he is one, like it seems a lot of others, that like to perch on my head when I have him out. Luckily he's still small enough to do that.

one of mine puts his F/T rats in his water bowl and pushes it against the side to hold it in place while he eats it... The first time I saw him do it I thought it was an accident, but he does it almost every time...

That's hilarious to me, because mine hates getting wet xD even if only the tip of his tail dips into the water dish, he'll hold it up straight in the air and glare at the dish like it attacked him.
