    Moving to Utah.

So me and my girlfriend are finally making the move to Utah within the next few weeks. We're from central new york so its a big move for us. We don't really know anyone and are obviously pretty nervous about it. Anyone from the Salt Lake City area? Could use a few friendly faces when we move.

Well hello! I would love to tell you everything about Utah since I am from Utah very recently. I am from Park City, a major ski town with 3 big ski resorts. Only 20 min from SLC. I would love to give you a tour but I am in Boston right now

Utah sounds fun, somewhat anyways. New York would be way to much commotion for me.

Well I'm from central New York. At least twenty minutes from town in the middle of nowhere. It's pretty nice to not be in any city. We plan on being out there the 19th so maybe you'll be back by then? Maybe I can meet some fellow herpers.

I love hiking. I live in a valley so I've been doing it since I was little. Nothing too extreme just relaxing hike. The landscape there looks so beautiful and I'm really excited. Any interesting herping out there?

There is many good trails in Park City, there is some abandoned mine building around you can explore. Lots of good animals such as deer, elk, moose (big ones) and etc. We do have some snakes and frogs but they are pretty hard to find.

I am sure you will find something, there is always something. Make sure you hike the Mt. Timpanogos very early morning and you will get to watch sunrise at the top of the mountain. Very worth it and you will see some herds of mountain goats. Right now is good time due to the leaves changing Oh, they have interesting cave too.

SLC is very easy to find and get around thanks to simple and numeric grid system. So easy you don't need gps often IMO. Try to avoid early Sunday traffic, most of them are rushing to the church services

Well I think thats pretty much it...I am just excited to hear somebody moving to Utah

    Re: Moving to Utah.

With all the parks it really does sound amazing. Good mountains for snowboarding? We're actually moving there because I wanted Arizona and she wanted Washington so that was our compromise. We're gonna move more around Orem (sp?) which is a bit below SLC. I plan on going to Snow college and she plans on working a bit then doing the same. Probably won't spend too much time in the city as I tend to not like the clutter. I prefer nature and more unaffected areas mostly. Gotta admit (and not to turn this thread into any sort of debate) we're kinda nervous about moving to a more religious area. Both of us are pretty much agnostic and being an unmarried couple in an area where a lot of apartments advertise as "great for a married couple or a single student" its kind of well scary haha.

    Re: Moving to Utah.

Orem is good city, I lived there when I went to college there, Sundance resort is closest to you for snowboarding. There is tons of resorts around are excellent for snowboarding, I know because I work in ski industry. There is 6 resorts, add 2 more if you ski, all within 30 min of driving.

Orem and Provo are pretty heavily religious areas thanks to BYU (Mormon college) I learned how to stay out of their way and respect, they wont bother you (if they do, just open the door in nude and they won't bother you again, true story.) Oh, better get used to seeing temples and churches every few miles.
