Normally once a month unless they poo in their hide and snuggle with it. I usually put the water in the tub and add about 1 drop of antibacterial dishwashing soap and swish it around with my hand so it doesn't suds up or anything. I usually do this at the beginning of the month when I treat the tanks with Provent-A-Mite...

Re: Giving your python a bath?

I think once a month would be most necessary. Or, like stated before, if they defecate in their hide then snuggle with it. I think it would be best to bathe your snake if that happened because the snake would definitely smell and most likely have the salmonella bacteria on it from laying in the feces.

Do you spot clean? If you don't, that's the main reason why your snake probably smells. None of my snakes smell because I spot clean but if they slither through it and sleep on it before I cleaned it up they would smell so I'd give them a bath.

Ya it would be a good idea to give him a bath. Just bathe him in warm water for 5-10 minutes and that's all. But right when you notice feces clean it up right away. And always check the hide for feces 2 days after the snake has eaten and if you don't see anything check up on it each day until you notice it has defecated.

Re: Giving your python a bath?

I bathe mine only when needed. Which is usually about twice a month since they seem to like to crawl through their poo.. sometimes I use just a tiny amount of baby shampoo. But dont get any on their head. They can get a RI if anything gets in their nostrils, pits or mouth. Then just rinse well with luke warm water.

Soap of any kind isnt needed tho. If they are dirty or smelly, just a warm soak and a gentle rub-down (in the direction the scales grow of course) is all you really need to do... I only use a dab of baby shampoo because it helps condition & soften the skin (scales) if they are due to shed soon.

My Burm practically floods half of his 6x3 cage when he pees. So I put him in the tub for a few minutes every time.

Re: Giving your python a bath?

I only bathe mine if they need it... like when Mona pooped and peed ALL over her tank, and then proceeded to slide her whole body through it. Blech. Otherwise I don't bother, unless they need help with a bad shed.
