    Re: Please Read! Totally flabbergasted!!

Lots of grain bugs "mites" are already in these types of foods. Anything from hogg food, bird food, and monkey biscuits.. To many of the grains you buy for yourself. Cereal, corn meal or corn bread mix, rice, oatmeal, you name it..

The problem is usually not caught before it leaves the processing and packaging plant because they are just eggs at that point.. Then sometime during shipment or shelf storage, if conditions are right, they can hatch and BOOM, a bug explosion..

Ive actually opened brand new, unexpired boxes of cereal or cornmeal to find bugs crawling around in it..

Baking it can help but these little buggers are very resilient. Either you will burn the food or never kill all of them with baking. Freezing is another option but its also not guaranteed. They can go dormant if frozen and even adults may die, but there will still be eggs that will most likely hatch when it warms up again..

Its really a lose lose situation. ALl you can do is everything you previously listed. Try to relocate the rats for a day to fumigate the basement and then just use all the control methods other people have listed here. Unfortunately you might never completely get rid of them if you dont get rid of the food. If you got rid of the food you run the risk of it happening again with your next food purchase.

Get ahold of the company too ask for a refund or discount on the food you purchased due to infestation..
