Re: What is soooo special about the....
I think the thing that sticks out most to me from the Axanthic morph is the color. The pattern is basically the same as a normal unless of course it is like a spider axanthic. But the color of it being like black and silver. Looks to me like it was taken with a black and white camera. Thats MO anyways.

Re: What is soooo special about the....
Axanthics are missing there yellow pigmentation and have a more gray black appearance rather than the normal brown and black. It is a lot easier to see the difference in the hatchlings than the adults.

Re: What is soooo special about the....
As has been said axanthic is a base morph, like albino. With nothing else added in it's not spectacular, but when it meets other morphs, like spider, pastel and pewter this year I see the results can be awesome.
All axanthic means is lacking yellow pigment, so it is a normal ball, sans the yellow, just as an albino is 'just a normal' without one form of melanin or another present. This is where leucism differs, most forms of leucism lack all pigment but retain eye colour (unlike albinos). Piebald is a form of partial Leucism. This applies to everything, be it ball pythons, horses or birds.
They look best as youngsters but tend to 'brown out' a little (or a lot in some cases) with age. Like any ball python morph the quality can differ from snake to snake. A good axanthic can look great, but when it's met (for example) the pastel gene a couple of times it looks amazing

I'm not too excited about Axthantics either....but I LOVE Axthantic Spiders, Axthantic Pins, ect. They can really make most codoms really look cool.

They are used to "cleanup" the patterns of other morphs

ok I can kind of tell with the picture, and i know it lacks to yellow pigment, but they are kinda boring by themselfs, but i do agree that the combos are really something to look at!!!

I love axanthics! Like everyone said a "basic" axanthic is hard to capture the color right in a photo. See one in person and it is a different story.

Re: What is soooo special about the....
Man I really have to totally disagree. When I first started looking at morphs there were two morphs that jumped out at me, axanthics and fires. I absolutely love the look of axanthics and in many cases some of the combo morphs that look great to begin with, look amazing when combined with axanthic. Axanthic bumble bees and killer bees are amazing. I guess it all boils down to the fact that I really love the look of a normal ball python, I have always loved them from a young age, I am 30 now, and the axanthic and fire morph just makes that pattern pop in different ways that I love.
