the skulls are wood (basic stuff but still wood) and i made the frame from trim.



the center part was once a 2X4. carved with a dremel...which will kill the dremel BTW...painted with nail polish. frame also made from trim.



i am currently working on another wood piece....something ive never seen before so im excited about it!!

Cool! that 2x4 one is really cool. Ive never tried carving, with anything lol.

This is one of my favorite hobbies. Since we moved into our new house last year I have turned my garage into a mini wood shop. Only thing big I have built in a while is my cabinet makers bench and some basic utilitarian stuff for the house. I did build this cage for my boas tho. Made it entirely out of scrap wood. I need to get better photos of it some time.

Thats a good use of scrap wood! It turned out pretty nice too. You cant beat something you made yourself. Id rather make something then buy it anyday. (scrap wood) I bet you cant beat the price for a double stacked cage

Here's the snake cage I've been working on (used to be a fireplace there). I'm an amature woodworker. I really enjoy fabrication of all types.

That looks really nice too. Thats cool how it opens up in all the different places. So its in the wall? Thats a good use of space! lol. Doesnt take up anyroom for you. Are you going to put on something that keeps the doors closed? Like locks/ latches.

I just started building my first wooden fishing lure.. a lipless through-wire swimbait.

minimal tooling.. just some hand tools (hand saw, leatherman etc) and a dremel.

I've got the lure carved, cut into 3 jointed pieces, holes drilled for through-wiring, crevaces drilled and filled with lead to weight the lure to just below neutral buoyancy, and a coat of acetone-thinned epoxy for initial waterproofing.

All I need to do now is paint, topcoat with epoxy again to protect the paintjob, assemble the through-wiring and joints (filling gaps in drilled holes with epoxy as well for waterproofing), and put on my hooks with split rings!

As it's my first attempt at any kind of woodworking, any kind of lure building, and figuring out just how to make a swimbait (not exactly easy to get it to swim right), especially with no useful tools like a band saw.. I'm not expecting any kind of success from this lure. However this has been fun so far and a great learning experience. If the lure does anything better than blowing up into 10000 splinters as soon as it hits the water for testing, I'll consider the project a success.

Cool, I should probably do that. I could turn one on my lathe, and ive been wanting to go fishing for the last week lol. I wouldnt make a swim bait though that would be harder. I would just make a basic shape and add color and feathers or what ever. haha, i dont think it will blow up.

Thank you. I've got latches on it now. The latches (slide bolts) on the top part are in the corners and slide down into the mantle piece. The front doors are secured with slide bolts top and bottom that go into aluminum strikers that I fabbed up out of some angled pieces from home depot.





I didn't have a sharp chisel so I had to mortise the doors with a razor knife. Works well though. The bottom slide bolts lock the bottom door as well. That space under the cage opens up to access all the electrical stuff for the timers, heaters, lights, and water pump. It also acts as a storage area for snake stuff.
