I think you did a great job on that sheet... I may start also doing index cards incase iHerp goes down...

And where did you guys get the iHerp logo or did you just save the image.

I use Degei and am very happy with it. Everything you need is in that program. I also used HCS for a while and it is pretty good too. I like having my files stored on my system, and backed up on my drives. Exel spreadsheets are cool, but the Degei program is just so meticulous, and is all there from the getgo.

Re: Degei, iHerp, Index Card, or other???

I have used all that are listed but I voted for Degei
I use a spiral notebook and write down each feeding but then go and plug it all into Degei.
I like all the features and amazing amount of information you can post about each animal, track breedings, clutches, ect.

Don't worry about a computer crash... I actually use a free backup program called GFI Backup Home Edition 2009 and backup to an external drive. It is a great free program that you can schedule backups to run automatically when ever you want and has many features that the premium backup software programs offer. I highly recommend it

I also use Degei. At the animal shelter I used to work for we used a program called Chameleon, I LOVED IT. It is quite expensive, and Degei is very, very similar and perfect for smaller, in-home use.
I love that you can print out reports and even cage cards with a brief synopsis for when you go to expos!

Re: Degei, iHerp, Index Card, or other???

I use note cards now, but I may want to try pavlovk1025's spread sheets (hint hint, I'd love a PM with those sheets ). I remember hearing about some programs that stored similar information, but didn't pay much attention. I need to go to bed tonight, but I will definitely check out Degei for the info card print out thing, and maybe give a look at iherp, but I don't like the idea of only being able to store the info online. I want something I can keep on my computer and easily store on a flash drive, print it out, or email all the info to myself. If you can only store it on the servers I is not for me.

Good thread though, def going to check them out tomorrow.

You can print iherp and imma put that into a suggestion... i was just glad to see all my info was still there when the site came back up... I would like degi with the bar code and I think there website needs to be made more user friendly and i havent been back recently but the download instructions were to complicated and all i do is sit at the computer all day... Maybe i was to lazy to read and udate or whatever it said...

The recent instructions are fairly easy for Degei
For a new installation you download each of the install packages
and after you install each package you must open the software and close it before installing the next package not hard but It would be nice to have it all rolled into one package.
