Has anyone seen the movie Earthlings?
Man what a powerful movie. It is seriously making me think about eating meat anymore. If you haven't seen this movie you need to rent it! It will have an impact on you. Be advised not for the squimish!

saw the trailer, didnt like it, but as a hunter of deer (im going to get a lot of hate commits for this) but i choose to humaenly take a animals life for the nutrition for myself, but thats how animals get treated if only their were more humane ways instead of beating animals to death i always take the most clean shot to make sure the animal that i take the life of dosent suffer long at all

I love meat but i think it should be treated humanly before I eat it. After watching this I personly think hunting is more humane then the slaughter houses. Like you said you go for the most humanely shot you can. I love meat but i also love animals and I think it is horrible how they are treated and i don't want to support it. Thats like buying a dog from a pet store. you are only supporting puppy mills.

well another reason we hunt is because in sc thier is a bad deer population problem in our aera and deer are starting to starve to death because they have to fight for food

I'm a hunter, an omnivore, and a predator. I'm a killer, a flesh-eater.. It's instinctual. That's just the kind of creature that I am.

Re: Has anyone seen the movie Earthlings?
If it's one of the films I'm thinking of, you have to realize that most slaughterhouses strive to kill as quickly as possible, and don't routinely try to torment animals that are there to be killed for food.
The films touting the abuse in slaughterhouses of course focus on whatever footage they can get of any abuses, mis-strikes of captive-bolt hits, twitching of a dead animal, and then they present that footage as the regular day-to-day at every slaughterhouse.
Most places do their best to kill quickly, because that's the most efficient and safe way to do business. Most places still aren't perfect, and many could use new improvements. Some places really should be shut down and revamped.
If you really want to be certain your meat was humanely kept and killed, look into local organic free-range places. Ask around, look on the internets. I have friends who raise pigs, cows and goats. I can go see those animals walking around fields. No stockyards, no crush in tiny pens. I know the place that butchers, and can go see them and see how they treat not only the meat.. but the animal which wore the meat beforehand.
I have no issue with eating meat. I prefer humane treatment of all animals. Unlike rabid fanatics(not referring to anyone in this thread), I can actually see both things happening.. humane treatment of animals that are turned into meat.. and it not be a lie.
Also, having raised and killed and butchered several types of animal myself, I know some of the ins and outs.

Re: Has anyone seen the movie Earthlings?
I hadn't heard of it but I'll have to check it out. Amy and I don't eat any meat and haven't for well over a year. We both eat fish and dairy. I stopped eating meat for cruelty reasons. My family is all vegetarian or only fish eaters. If I ever went back to eating meat the only kind I would eat is pasture raised/humanely killed. I found out recently that Whole Foods carries this type of meat. I just haven't feld the need to go back to it at this point. I am and always have been an animal person. I believe that how we treat animals reflects on us as humans.
