    hardwear cloth on rat racks

Hi all I wanted to ask about the wire cloth on the rat racks.
We used 1\2 inch on top and I wanted to make sure the rats can get their food through this.
I have been giving them their food in bowls and its worked fine til lately.
They have started over turning the bowls and burying the food and it ends up getting peed on so I am wasting a lot at this point so I thought I would place it on top of the wire like I have seen in pictures and on youtube but I want to make sure that they can eat it through this with no problems.
I don't want to strave them or anything.

They are all my older ones no babies as I haven't started breeding yet.

Anyway I wanted to see what can tell me about feeding them this way.
    Thanks

They can eat through it. It's definitely a little nerve racking for the few days before everyone figures out the best way to eat through the cloth, but yes, they all can!
