Flexwatt Taping

Hi there, I have 2 x 28 qt sterilite tubs that I switch my BPs to recently.

I dont have a rack yet, but I have a 4 feet melanie board. The 28qt tubs sit on top of it next to each other and the other side of the tubs is suported by a random piece of wood and keeps the tubs leveled.

Now I placed a 3 ft 4 inch flexwatt on top of the melanie and covered it completely with aluminum tape. At the time that seemed like a good idea and I was pretty proud of my self for having assembled the ranco and setting down the flexwatt that I got from reptile basics into what I call my "ghetto rack" lol.

I placed the Ranco probe on top of the flexwatt which is covered with aluminum tape. I have an acurite inside the tub, But to reach 93 in temperature in the warm side, I have to set my ranco to 105.

Now, i dont know much about it racks, but is that ok? should I place the ranco probe inside the tub in the warm side? or I was thinking taking the aluminum tape off and just taping the edges of the flexwatt to keep it in place and put the ranco probe inside the tubs... But i dont know if that is safe.

Any input would be appreciated much! thanx! me love you long time!


P.S: I think there should be a sticky somewhere in this forum on how to "Tape Flexwatt" to a rack/etc. I couldnt find this info anywhere in the internet, and I had to watch a bunch of different videos JUST to get some ideas.

You don't want to cover your flexwatt completely in anything. Just tape down the edges where the black heating element isn't present with your aluminium tape. Tape your tstat probe so that it is right in contact with the flexwatt and you're good to go.

Thanx alot! I will try that now. I just cut my finger tips a bit removing the aluminum tape
