Re: What is wrong with people?
The good news is that all 4 animals in the three shipments made it safely today. This has made me rethink how I handle sales. I have never asked for cell phone numbers before but I am going to have to refuse to ship in the future without one. For me to have to wait until evening to find out that a package made it safely at 10:30 AM is a problem for me.

Re: What is wrong with people?
I've always called the shipper to let them know that the snake arrived fine, or that I've picked it up from FedEx when I've asked to have it held at FedEx for pick-up on days I can't get off work (FedEx is 2 miles from my house).
I can't receive shipments at work, so it's either take the day off, or have held for pick-up at FedEx (which is nice when it's really hot or really cold, because they are in a climate controlled facility all day).

Re: What is wrong with people?
It may not be that they don't care, it may be that they don't know how much YOU care.
When I get something I usually, not always, but usually, send a confirmation.
When I send something I ASSume that if I hear nothing, then all is well.
It's not that caring about your snakes is not good, but once sold, once paid for, it's up to the buyer to decide if he/she wants further contact with you.
I do understand your feelings but if you haven't EXPLICITLY told them you require contact upon arrival, how do they know you really want it?
If I buy from a Show or a store, I feel no obligation to update them on the animal I purchased and I am, once again, ASSuming, that many online purchases are viewed in the same category as any other purchase: I got it, paid for it, am happy with it and see no need, not to be mean but just see no need, to have further contact with the seller.
Perhaps its undereducation of the buyer. Perhaps not.
Just be sure your TOS covers your butt if it's dropped off but not signed for and remember, you SOLD the animal. It is not longer yours. As much as you'd like to know all about it for the rest of forever, your buyer is under no obligation to keep you so informed.
Not whizziing in your Wheaties Jaimie, just trying to provide another point of view.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

If you tracked it and it said delivered, then I would assume all is well.
I always call after I've received an animal to explain good or bad news.

I don't have a signature release on file and I've had to literally tell the FedEx guy to stand still a second and let me sign the darn electronic pad thingy. I've even had them say "oh you don't need to sign" and I've told them "well actually yes I do so hand it over".
Jamie, I think this is a good lesson learned for you and for all of us that don't ship all that often. Getting a contact number and making it a part of your TOS that contact is required either by phone or email within "x" number of hours of receipt of the snake to confirm it's live arrival is a very good point and one I appreciate you raising in this thread.

Re: What is wrong with people?
I always e-mail the sender to tell them that I got it and to THANK them for the beautiful snake they sold me.

Re: What is wrong with people?
I know how you feel man..... I have people always saying will you ship it out to me and I say not unless I have phone Info. My term is "will not ship unless costumer has given phone information" I made the same mistake and will never ever do it again.

Re: What is wrong with people?
I understand how you feel. It is hard to wonder what happened to your baby after it leaves your hands. Especially when you KNOW it should have been delivered by x. I usually tell those who buy from me. "I offer a live arrival garentee, so it is very important to le me know all is ok when you get them. If I have not heard from you 3 hours after you get the package then the live arrival garentee is void." I try not to be pissy about it but I feel if the person getting my baby isn't willing to work with me then my hands are tied.

Re: What is wrong with people?
This thread is a help to me right now. Thank you. I am just getting ready to write the Terms page for my website, and I think I will add something like this.
I know I always write to them or call them as soon as I get my snake. I tell the seller that I got it, alive, and well. I also let them know that if I have any questions, I will give them a call.
What are your terms for later deliveries? I live about 30 miles, and a few towns away, from the Fed-Ex, and UPS hubs. I have never received a delivery before 10:30. On my last purchase, I had to write an email stating that I knew there was no live arrival guarantee because of this. Is this normal?

Re: What is wrong with people?
because people can be really unaware or clueless of other peoples feelings. Its actually something more along the lines of common sense (which a lot of the public is seriously lacking) to let the sender know that the package was safely delivered and all is well, not just contact the sender when something goes wrong. I always have emailed as soon as possible (within a two hour time frame) to thank them for a beautiful animal and that all went well.
