Re: my new pick up
Found out a little while ago, that me calling him a IJ jag is incorrect..both the non jag parents were, it turns out, PNG carpets. I was sold him as a reduced pattern IJ, but after a bit of research i found out that the bloke i brought him of actually called his PNG, a reduced pattern IJ.

Re: my new pick up
png = papua new guinea = irian jaya
they are most likely one in the same... although there are a couple theories that the reduced png animals may be illegally imported jungle variants from australia if i remember correctly.

Re: my new pick up
i took this from paul harris's site ukpythons.
About the species
Description
Reduced Pattern Carpet Pythons are also know as "New Guinea" or "PNG" Carpet Pythons. Reduced Pattern Jaguars are produced from breeding a Coastal Jaguar Carpet to a Reduced Pattern Carpet, the resulting offspring are 50% Reduced Pattern x Jaguars. Breeding a 50% Reduced Pattern x Jaguar back to a Reduced Pattern Carpet would yield second generation or 75% Reduced Pattern x Jaguar Carpet Pythons.

History
In 2005 I hatched the first 50% Reduced Pattern x Jaguar Carpet Pythons. In 2008 I bred a 2005 male 50% Reduced Pattern x Jaguar Carpet to a female Reduced Pattern Carpet, hatching the first 75% Reduced Pattern x Jaguars! These snakes have no "normal" Irian Jaya Carpet Python blood in them.
The chap above is where the sire of my jag came from ( a 50% rp x jag )..... so now i'm well and truly confussed, as he states there is no ij blood in the reduced pattern jags..... on another thread i posted on aussie python.com, a gentleman called derek roddy also believed png's were different to ij's....... i like you colin, thought they were the same, but now i'm completely confounded..........

Re: my new pick up
well, nobody knows, and therein lies the problem... but i think you and i are on the same page.
the main thing i was saying is that they were imported as PNG carpets... well, PNG stands for Papua New Guinea as far as i know... which is the proper name for Irian Jaya... so either they're irian jayas or it's simply speculation. or at least thats how i look at it.
