Albino Spider Questions?

Giant Banana? That sounds like an awesome site to me.

Although I know that is not the desired outcome for some people, I didn't say that was necessarily a bad thing. I being a specific person that likes to see the traits that should be displayed, would not be pleased with an all yellow (Albino Spider). Hence the reason I haven't got one yet. I haven't been able to find one that is high contrast enough. Also, I haven't attempted producing my own, because I am too picky in what I want, and would rather be able to hand pick what I like to see.

I just weighed her right now and she weighed 779 completely empty. Didn't eat last week or this week due to shed...


That is what I was hoping wouldn't happen. But I guess there is only one way to find...

See my response above. I definitely think there is some personal satisfaction from begining and see the end of a project. I think it is still worthwhile, but I wanted to let you know thatI have seen what you don't want, and wanted to point out that it was a possibility.

I totally agree with you Tim, still a giant Yellow Ball python would be quite the sight.

Just wanted to add something. I notice everybody mentioned the albino having high contrast genes, but the genes of your spiders will play just as much of a part. If the banding on your spider is a nice deep black, that's going to give you better contrast when adding the albino into the mix. If the banding goes brown, that's where the yellow will start to bleed through into the white as the albino spider gets older.

Are you talking about the black color on the male I have now or the black color on the babies that will be het albino? Thanks!!!

I would pick the baby spider with the darkest black. I want to hand pick a male spider albino this year to put with my 2 females!

The spider het albino mainly, although in a round about way if you are getting that spider het albino by using the male you currently have, you can put that advice towards your current male also. Basically, when it comes down to picking which het to breed to your albino, use the one with the darkest blacks.

Think of it like this. The albino gene removes the black pigment. So the cleanest black will result in the cleanest white. Meanwhile, the darker oranges/browns/yellows will result in cleaner yellows. The in between stuff -- blushing, browning out, etc... -- is where the yellow will bleed into the white later on. Basically, instead of browning out, albino's yellow out.
