    Re: Normal X Normal

    Hi,

I am only a beginner at breeding ball pythons but I did used to breed a pile of corns and leos at one point.

I managed to sell all of my spare ball python hatchlings (all four of them ) to petshops this year in the UK and got the equivalent of $55 each.

But if you sell to wholesalers then obviously you will get less to allow them to make a profit.

The best price would be to sell direct to the public but it all depends how you want to do it.

Wholesalers : might buy the whole load but for a lower price.

Pet shop: might not be able to take them all at once but offer slightly more.

Public: will probably only buy one but at the best price.

It is sometimes worth asking if you would get a better value in credit rather than cash from the wholesaler and petshop - mine sadly stopped doing this last year.

I used to get an extra 20% for credit.

I still preffer to wait until everything has eaten at least three times in a row before selling no matter which route I go - but that can mean you either don't make any money, or possibly even lose money, on some babies if they take a while to get started.

But it can pay off long term as the buyer will be more likely to buy animals he feels he will have less problems with from you than to go with Joe Schmoe selling unstarted hatchlings for a couple of bucks cheaper.

You may want to keep any females you hatch and sell them as ready to breed later on. It's fun raising them up from hatchlings to adults. I'm pretty sure people will always purchase ready to breed normal females as a cheaper way to produce more of their male morphs.
