    That I can agree with.
I think that it takes patience and appreciation and the knowledge of the individual animal. There are many ways to not get bitten and there are many ways to get bitten.
I have found that by doing rescue I have been in situations where the animal has been severely neglected and sometimes I will get bitten upon first arrival. It happens. Many calm down with the right husbandry and patient handling when needed.

    Yes, Rusty: Patience.

Sometimes I assume that people on forums already have lots of experience with reptiles and know all the basics. I should check that behavior. Patience is key with any reptile, especially monitors and the herps with "bad reps" such as anacondas, retics, afrocks, ratsnakes, etc. All these animals can be calm, trusting pets, but a lot of patience and the right environments are key.
